Frank Smith, 65, of St. Helena got a free ride to the Napa County jail after he allegedly rammed his car into a Jaguar.
Smith was driving his pickup in the Circle Oaks area off Highway 121 on Sunday, when he crashed into a fire hydrant, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Elfido Montez said.
The impact ripped the hydrant from the ground, and it ended up in the middle of the street, Montez said.
A neighbor saw what happened and witnessed Smith drive away from the scene, he said.
The man got into his Jaguar and tried to stop Smith from leaving the area. “Somehow his Jaguar got in front of Smith’s pickup. Smith purposely ran his vehicle into the Jaguar. Smith was highly intoxicated at the time,” Montez said.
Smith then slammed into the Jaguar again, pushing it into the intersection of Highway 121 and Circle Oaks Drive, he said. “People stopped and helped the driver of the Jaguar detain Smith until officers arrived.”
No one was seriously hurt. The Jaguar received major damage.
Smith was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and assault with a deadly weapon.
