Art notes: Face your fears at Vintage High Haunted House

Once again Vintage High School’s drama department students have done their part to make Halloween a scream for everyone. Their annual haunted house — this year it’s the “Haunted House of Phobias” —  is open this week through Friday and on Monday, Oct. 29, and Tuesday, Oct. 30. It opens at noon for Vintage students, and again from 3 to 5 p.m. for the general public. Tickets are $1 and may be purchased at the door, located at the back of the Vintage High School Little Theatre. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The boo-tiful Art of Susan Bartolucci

There’s something about Halloween that gets Susan Bartolucci’s creative juices flowing — not “creative juices” as in chardonnay or pinot noir, although she helps keep those juices flowing as well, being the matron of one of Napa Valley’s oldest wine producing families.

'Our Town' hits home at NVC

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen “Our Town,” Thornton Wilder’s much-loved tale of love and marriage, and life and death in a New Hampshire village in the early 20th century. Most of the dialogue is stored away in my head; so I am always amazed when it pulls me in again as it always does when a production draws that magical thread that connects Grovers Corners, New Hampshire, to anywhere else in the world, even Napa, California, in the year 2007.

Ten years ago Robert Dubac figured out what women want. North Bay well represented at 50th Monterey Jazz Fest

Jimmy Lyons, the late co-founder of the Monterey Jazz Festival, used to say he was throwing a big party each year on a September weekend. A 50th anniversary is certainly cause to celebrate, and Lyons would have been proud to see that his successor Tim Jackson has carried on the tradition.
