For more than 12 seasons Chef “Wild Bob” Hurley has been matching the grape harvest with the autumn hunt, to celebrate his own special Wild Game Week. The annual event this year is Nov. 12–17 at Hurley’s Restaurant & Bar in Yountville.

Monday through Saturday, Hurley will prepare a changing all-day menu of wild game dishes created from exotic ingredients stalked from around the world and brought together under one roof. He invites all adventurous diners to come in and sample the delicacies that may include seared peppered venison, antelope, sailfish, buffalo ribeye, braised wild boar, rabbit, roasted caribou, sautéed ostrich medallions and Scottish wood pigeon. Items from the regular à la carte menu will also be available.
Hurley works with wine country vintners to provide a variety of “civilized” wines that will also reflect the excitement of this “wild” event; many of them are available by the glass. One can enjoy these local libations at the lively bar or in the comfortable dining room highlighted by a stone fireplace.

Wild Game Week happens only once a year and reservations are highly recommended. For more information call 944-2345.
Hurley’s Restaurant & Bar is at 6518 Washington Street, Yountville, off of Highway 29. Online reservations and the restaurant’s calendar of events are at www.HurleysRestaurant.com.

Eat well and support education
To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the Napa Valley Education Foundation is hosting Taste For Knowledge, the signature fundraising event for public education in the Napa Valley, at the Silverado Resort for the first time.

In keeping with tradition, the event takes place the first Saturday in November, but the format has changed. This year, guests will be treated to a sparkling wine and hors d’oeuvres reception during the silent auction on the fairway deck, followed by a live auction and four-course dinner prepared by Executive Chef Peter Pahk.

Wines for this year’s event have been generously donated by local wineries, including Mumm, Beringer Vineyards, Benessere Vineyards and Elizabeth Spencer Wines.

This year’s featured artwork, “Gabriel’s Games,” donated by Yountville artist Steven Gordon, will also be available during the live auction.

Proceeds are distributed to all NVUSD public schools, grades K-12. Since 1983, the Napa Valley Education Foundation has given more than $1 million back to students and teachers.

A list of auction items is available at www.nvef.org. Tickets are available at $100 per person, $125 after Oct. 26. To receive an invitation or order tickets online, please send an e-mail to foundation@nvusd.k12.ca.us, call 253-3563 or visit www.nvef.org.
