The Napa Police Department has been busy over the weekend working a string of strong-arm robberies, and one attempted robbery, that began on Friday evening. Officers responded to three more robberies Saturday and one on Sunday morning, bringing the total to seven confirmed crimes.

The first of the Saturday incidents occured in a hallway at McPherson Elementary School at 5:39 p.m. A 44-year-old Napa man reported that two Hispanic juveniles approached him and demanded his property. He gave them some cash and the robbers fled east through the school grounds. The man was not injured and described the robbers as two Hispanic men, about 17 years old, wearing dark pants and plaid shirts.
Then at 9 p.m., another Napa man reported that two robbers, with a description similar to those of the McPherson robbers, approached him near Laurel and Homewood Streets and hit him. They took the man’s cell phone and cash, police said, and fled the area in a sedan. He sustained minor facial injuries when they struck him in the face.

About an hour later, a 35-year-old Napa man told police that he was walking to his home on Yajome Street from Memorial Stadium when he was approached by robbers fitting the description of the previous crimes, but this time they wore bandanas and dark, baggy-hooded sweatshirts. One of the robbers had a knife and they took his wallet. They fled on foot into McPherson Elementary School after the crime.
Finally, about a half hour after midnight Sunday, police responded to another robbery at McPherson. A 14-year-old boy reported that two robbers, fitting the description of Saturday’s incidents, beat him up and took some property from him. The boy was knocked to the ground and sustained a cut lip that requir ed stitches according to police reports.

Napa Police Sgt. Paul Paniagua said that police believe that these crimes, as well as three similar strong-arm robberies and one attempted robbery that happened Friday, were committed by the same men. Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to contact the Napa Police Department at 253 4451.

" "RUT RO RAGGY" This will not appear well in any of the "TOURISTA'S BROCHURES" "

" Let me try this again and see if I can get past the thought police. Is there a growing environment of lawlessness in our community; a trend towards picking and choosing which laws are followed...and does that have anything to do with another of our front page headlines? Why do I keep being censored? Is the truth that hard to swallow? "

" O.k., how sad that these robberies are occuring. But I have to ask, "Why on earth was a 14 year old wandering around after midnight??!!" Jeez "

" Reality Check... couldnt agree with you more. Unfortunately, people just dont want to open their eyes to see it and admit it, or god forbid, say it out loud.. Sadly, it is going to get a lot worse before people take a step back and go, "Whoa", maybe we should have seen this coming. But by that point, it's going to be mayhem. "

" gotta love the 14 year old out after midnight, and the fact that the people commiting these robberies were hispanic men. "

" Ok, Reality Check and twocents..I'll say it; let's see if this sees the light of day. The descriptions of these two perps, along with the general descriptions of the very large percentage of law breakers; those involved in domestic violence arrests, DUI's, B&E's, driving w/out a license, robberies, assaults, drug arrests and illegal weapons charges all share a similar description and these also appear to be very akin to the descriptions of those who, by a 90+% margin, cross our southern border illegally. All have the same physical description and similar surnames. We are being over run with law breakers crossing our borders and assaulting our citizens, robbing this country of it's heritage, history, culture and sanity. It is time this is stopped; no; it is FAR PAST TIME that this problem is dealt with. Our government, on all levels, as well as our law force; sheriff, police, ICE, FED's, MUST address this ongoing invasion; must stop the madness, must admit that there IS a growing problem and nip it in the bud..or cut off the entire branch. Our elected REPRESENTATIVES (underscore) must act in the best interest of the American citizens who voted them into office and who share the same Constitution as our elected officials share. No more pandering to illegals and no more cowtowing to the demands of lawbreakers. Stop the Madness!!! NOW "

" Concerned Citizen... well put! I would have loved to have been the one to say it, but my posts frequently don't make it past the "opinion police". I'm glad yours did. Keem 'em coming! "

" To the concerned citizen, I say AMEN. My sentiments exactly! We need to question why this country dangles all the enticements to lure all the lawbreakers over here. I wish I didn't have to pay over $500 a month for Health Insurance and they (illegals) walk in a get free medical for any minor ailment. I see a growing problem with illegal lawbreakers in this town, heaven help us. My hope is the next victim those thugs try and rob is armed! "

" Maybe legal citizens should have a rally downtown like the illegal citizens did. We could march around and declare our right to stay in this country, when we actually do have a right. "

" ya know, the funny thing is(if there is one)people of california are not allowed to arm themselves while in public! at least not people of the general public! meanwhile, people who are commiting armed robberies are well armed! i think that if people were allowed to conceal and carry legally, like some other states, robbers would know that their chances of getting punched full of holes would greatly increase during an attempted robbery! obviously, the police cant stop it all the time, why not let the public help! an assailant killed in a robbery attempt, obviously wouldnt be coming back over the border anytime soon! wake up california, protect yourselves! "

" I understand what all of you are saying, but at what point in this article did it say the suspects we "ILLEGAL"? They used the word Hispanic! So does that mean that all Hispanics are illegal? No, and it's people like all of you that are making a big deal out of their race, rather than the crime that was commited. "

JRZ wrote on Oct 15, 2007 10:06 AM:

" THANK YOU SZ! You are very right, and I must say its unfortunate how many people seem to be very prejudice and like you said don't look at the real problem which is the crime that was committed. "

" Illegal immigration is costing us a fortune. Education, health care and other social benefits including law enforcement and the court system. Both parties are looking the other way. Its up to the legal citizens to take back our country. "

wtrfwlr wrote on Oct 16, 2007 6:46 AM:

" doesnt really matter what color these folks are, we still have a problem. concerning the racial thing, i am not from napa originaly, i am from a city environment where this stuff goes down constantly, even worse stuff! believe me, it is not the white conservative commiting these crimes! yet he/she is not allowed to conceal and carry! at home your o.k., in public its open season. good luck! "

" the post said HISPANICS not illegals. Hispanics doesn't mean illegals; do not make up things. "

" Not all Hispanics are illegal...but almost every illegal alien is Hispanic. The truth hurts...but doesn't make it any less true. (And what does that term 'Hispanic' mean anyway??? I only knew two immigrants from Spain and they were both law abiding gentlemen...both went back when their visas expired.) "

" I think everyone deserves a second chance, these guys are young and have there whole lives ahead of them, we have to help them, not tear them down, they just havent had the right romodels and really dont know what lifes all about.ALso just because they are hispanic doesnt mean all hispanics are like this. "

Reality Check wrote on Oct 25, 2007 6:44 AM:

" Sure, Let them out and give them another chance...maybe next time it will be your wallet they take. Obviously not all Latinos are law breakers...Caesar Chavez and his brother were fantastic examples of heros and leaders in the Latino community...and they both also violently opposed illegal immigration. " After sitting at my desk for 9 hours and in my car for a long commute, I would like to walk when I get home from work. My options are to have a gun, a partner or a gym membership. No gun for obvious reasons, no partner for reasons that are none of your business and no gym membership because it is too expensive. I guess I could buy a treadmill and have the same scenery every step of my walk or not walk because it is too dark to protect myself without a gun or a partner. Sad, very very sad. "

Ephemerol wrote on Oct 28, 2007 3:26 AM:

" I love to walk also and cannot give it up as it's a part of my being. I grew up this way in New England. While I still live in the urban bay area, I carry with me at night or when it gets dark, one of the Mag-Lite flashlights. You can see the sidewalk trip buckles this way *before* you trip and fall on them and much more. It will assist you in blinding dogs that attack as well. However the best component of this is that most of the criminal element leave you alone as they know they will not escape any attempt at robbery etc. w/o broken bones or much worse. While it sounds brutal it's a suggestion and hopefully a helpful one. I just wish I had in in hand when I was attacked and nearly killed dead some fourteen years ago here. "
