Napa High deems student candidate for National Merit award
After having been on the honor roll every semester of high school and achieving many academic rewards, Matthew Lewis has been deemed a candidate worthy of National Merit consideration by Napa High.
In addition to being one of the highest academically achieving seniors on campus, Matt is a musician, athlete and AVID tutor. He spent a year as student representative on the NVUSD Board of Education, which governs more than 17,000 students in the valley. He returns to the organization as Napa High School’s September Student of the Month. Matt hopes to be accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology next year as a first step to achieving his career goals./Register
Two senior high school students excel on PSATs
Napa High seniors Gabriel Peralez and Dakota Salazar have been recognized by the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program, as announced by Principal Barbara Franco.
The National Hispanic Recognition Program, established in 1983, is a college board program that provides national recognition of the exceptional academic achievements of Hispanic high school seniors and identifies them for post-secondary institutions.
Students enter the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as high school juniors and by identifying themselves as Hispanic. This year, more than 196,000 PSAT/NMSQT takers nationwide identified themselves as Hispanic, and more than 4,000 of those students are being recognized as National Hispanic Scholars (3.5 or higher GPA) or Honorable Mention Finalists (3.0-3.49 GPA) based upon their PSAT/NMSQT scores and their academic achievements./Register
