Water-Wise landscaping workshops

Managing credit seminar
Cheryl Woods of Barron Mortgage Company in Napa presents a seminar on management of personal credit to reach specific goals on Sept. 27 from 7-8:30 p.m. and on Sept. 29, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at First American Title Company of Napa, 2390 California Blvd., Napa. Diabetes awareness
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has organized two events this fall to raise awareness about juvenile diabetes. Dr. Aaron Kowalski, the scientific program manager at JDRF International presents his research findings in a lecture, “On the way to an Artificial Pancreas.” Robert Bolt also presents, the parent of a clinical trial participant and board member of the JDRF on Sept. 27 from 6-8 p.m. at The White Barn 2727 Sulphur Springs, St. Helena. Low vision group
The Low Vision Group of the Upper Napa Valley meets at the Rancho de Calistoga Recreation Hall on Sept. 28 at 1:30 p.m. Robert Vanderford hosts the meeting. Scott Kies presents some of the latest innovations to serve those with low vision or are blind.
Communication skills workshop
The Napa County Office of Education sponsors this workshop, led by Cathy Bucher, that teaches people how to break patterns of thinking that lead to arguments, anger and depression, and to resolve conflicts peacefully, on Sept. 29. Republicans toast top volunteer
The Napa County Republican Party is honoring its Volunteer of the Year, Chaplain Lee Shaw, on Oct. 4 at the Napa Elks Lodge. Adam Housley will be the guest speaker, there will be a silent auction, no host cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner starts at 7.

NHS Academic Booster Club
Napa High School Academic Booster Club hosts Dine & Donate events throughout the fall semester. Sept. 27, Rockzilla, 849 Jackson St., 5A, Napa, donates 50 percent of all of climbing fees when you bring a flyer. Oct. 16, Mary’s Pizza Shack, 3085 Jefferson St., Napa, donates 20 percent when you present a flyer. The first 100 students through the door with a student ID receive Applebee’s prizes. Come to an Academic Booster Club meeting at the Napa High library. Meetings are on the fourth Wednesday of the month, 7-8 p.m. The business portion is 8-9 p.m.
Catholic charities fundraiser
Kealoha Keliikoa, retiring executive director of Catholic Charities, brings Hawaii and the Live Aloha spirit to Napa Valley. Entertainment includes Hawaiian musicians and Hawaiian dancers “Halau o Kawainuhi.” The traditional Hawaiian luau includes Kalua pig, lomi lomi salmon, teriyaki chicken, haupia, chicken long rice, regular rice, mac and cheese, pineapple, cake, wine, aloha punch, water, and beer. CASA volunteers needed
Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers are needed to work with children who are dependents of the court as a result of having been abused, neglected or abandoned. Volunteers undergo a thorough background and screening process and complete approximately 40 hours of initial training. Trained CASA volunteers meet and work with dedicated professionals working to help children and families reunify. Napa Women’s Club Evening Edition
The women of Napa Valley are invited to join the Napa Women’s Club Evening Edition on Sept. 25, in a historical building at 218 Franklin Street in Napa. The social/networking starts at 6 p.m., followed by the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Networking continues after the meeting.
City of St. Helena meeting
The St. Helena General Plan Steering Committee hosts an open house and workshop on Sept. 26. The purpose is to begin making general plan visioning decisions from residents’ input received during a phone survey on important issues such as housing, traffic, the environment, commercial services, town character and water. Anyone interested in getting involved in the process is asked to come participate.
