A Santa Rosa man charged with attempting to molest two women in the bathroom of the Rutherford Grill earlier this year has pleaded guilty.

On Wednesday, just days before his trial was slated to begin, Hugo Pacheco, 26, entered a guilty plea to two counts of assault with the intent to commit rape.
He is looking at eight years in prison, according to defense attorney Greg Galeste.

Pacheco, who is being held on $500,000 bail, is set to be sentenced Oct. 3.
The crimes occurred March 26 in the women’s bathroom at Rutherford Grill on Highway 29, south of St. Helena.

Pacheco entered the restaurant by the side door next to the bathrooms. He was not a customer, according to court records. Once inside the restaurant, Pacheco went straight to the women’s bathroom, entered the back stall and removed his clothes, investigators said.
A woman came into the bathroom and said she saw Pacheco standing there naked. He grabbed her and tried to pull her inside the back stall. She spun around and was able to break loose from his grip, tearing her sweater in the process.

The woman ran from the bathroom. Just as that was happening, a woman in another stall came out and Pacheco grabbed her and tried to pull her into the back stall. She was fighting him off when some men came in and wrestled Pacheco to the ground.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for Pacheco’s vehicle and Santa Rosa residence.

Pacheco had worked for a janitorial company. However, he did not work for the company that cleans Rutherford Grill.
