7:40 p.m.A Napa man is in stable condition at Queen of the Valley Medical Center after his girlfriend, a 49-year-old Napa woman, shot him several times early Saturday morning, police said.

Napa Police officers arrested Roxanne Laverne McWilliams on suspicion of attempted murder three hours after police say she shot James Talley, 50, with whom she shares a home on the 2100 block of Redwood Road.
A Napa Police release indicates that Talley phoned police at 5:10 Saturday morning to report that McWilliams shot him. City of Napa fire crews arrived shortly afterwards and discovered that Talley had been shot several times in the torso.

McWilliams had fled the scene.
Paramedics took Talley to the Queen, where he underwent emergency surgery and improved from critical condition to stable condition as of 7 p.m. Saturday.

As police investigators scoured the home for evidence, McWilliams walked back to the scene of the crime and surrendered. According to the release, McWilliams admitted to police investigators that she was the one who shot Talley.
At press time, police investigators were attempting to find out more about what led to the shooting. Detectives recovered a .38 caliber handgun from the home and are determining if it was the same weapon used in the shooting.

" I'm disappointed that I had to read the San Francisco Chronicle to find out that the alleged shooter, McWilliams, is on record with NVUSD as a teacher at Pueblo Vista. I thought the Register had the edge on Local news? "

" I have known Roxanne McWilliams for more than 10 years; there MUST be more to this story. Not only is she a teacher, but a caring individual who is not prone to violence. "

" As a fellow student of Mrs.McWilliams, having heard this shocking news, I could not believe it. After reading the newspaper article, I know that there must be way more to this story that nobody knows yet. It must have been something so dramtic that to have driven her to take the actions that she did. I have known her for about 8 years and she is the kind of teacher that you could sit down and have a conversation with, about alomst anything. But besides that, she is the kind of teacher, that connects with all of her students to a level trust that a student could go to her for aid whether personal or regarding school. Mine, and my family's prayers are with her and her family at this difficult time. "
