Napa Valley College is looking for players interested in joining its women’s golf team. Anyone interested can call Jim Wiechers, the head coach, at 255-0296.

Justin-Siena High School youth cheerleading clinic today
Justin-Siena High School’s award-winning cheerleaders are hosting a youth cheerleading clinic on Sept. 1, at which time participants will learn a routine to perform at Justin-Siena’s first home football game on Sept. 7.

At the clinic, participants receive personal instruction, a rehearsal CD, a spirit T-shirt, games, arts and crafts, and snacks. At halftime during the first home varsity football game all participants will be featured performers.
The clinic goes from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the North Gym. Children ages 3 and up are eligible to sign up. Proceeds support the Justin-Siena cheerleading program.

The cost is $50 per child for the Sept. 1 clinic, halftime performance participation, and pre-game dinner at the Family Tailgate Pasta Party for the child on Sept. 7. It’s $10 for each additional dinner guest for The Family Tailgate Pasta Party ($5 per additional child ages 10 and under). Game admission is not included.

Former big league players to visit Napa today

Former major league baseball players Vida Blue, Kevin Mitchell, J.T. Snow and Lenny Randle will dine at Bay Leaf Restaurant on Sept. 1 to help raise funds for Napa Youth, a non-profit organization benefiting kids in the Napa Valley and beyond.

The event is entitled “Dinner with the Stars” and is presented by Lenny Randle Sports Tours.

It includes a four-course dinner with entertainment provided by jazz artist, Lloyd “Conspire” Lopez and R&B hit artist TQ. There is a silent auction, offering a trip to Hawaii, a Las Vegas get-away, sports memorabilia, and wines from the Napa Valley.

Napa Youth, founded by Pam Turner, is dedicated to helping kids prepare for the next phase of their life.

Thanks to Randle and former San Francisco Giants manager Dusty Baker, four boys from the community have received college scholarships as a result of Napa Youth’s baseball clinics.

Napa Youth invites the public to “Dinner with the Stars” beginning at 6 p.m. The cost is $125 per person in advance or $175 at the door.

Napa Valley Water Polo Speedo Cup camp starts Sept. 4

Napa Valley Water Polo is offering a Speedo Cup camp, which is open to all boys and girls age 14-and-under and not in high school.

Membership in USA Water Polo is $60, or the cost is $35 for a four-month temporary membership (required for insurance).

Use the information provided to fill out your USA Water Polo forms. Mail or bring the printable USA Water Polo membership confirmation and NVWP registration form to the first day of practice.

Speedo Cup camps will be held starting Sept. 4.

The fees for Speedo Cup camp are $95 for youths ages 8-and-under and $140 for youths 9 to 14. Speedo Cup Tournament players will have additional tournament costs.

Fall golf classes start Sept. 11

Napa Valley Adult School is offering golf classes during the upcoming fall session. All classes are held at the Vintner’s Golf Club in Yountville and are taught by golf professionals.

Those interested should register in the school office at 1600 Lincoln Ave. and can choose from several six-week sessions starting Sept. 11, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The cost for each six-week session is $125. A basic class meets Tuesday or Thursday evening, and “Improving your game” meets Wednesday evenings.

The basics of golf covers swing, grip, weight transfer, putting, short game, rules, etiquette, and other topics.

Clubs are provided at classroom sessions.

“Improving your game” picks up where the basic class ends; it’s a review of the basics, short game techniques, bunker play, full swing, error correction and audio visual analysis. Players should bring clubs for the first session.

Pre-registration is required and all fees must be paid prior to class.

Molly’s Angels golf tournament Sept. 19

Molly’s Angels third annual Charity Golf Tournament, silent auction and dinner/dance is Sept. 19 at Silverado Resort. Registration is at 10 a.m., followed by a putting contest and the noon shotgun start.

There is a no-host cocktail and complimentary wine bar at 6 p.m., followed by a dinner and silent auction at 7 p.m, and then an awards ceremony and program at 7:30 p.m.

There will be dancing to the Leigh Wyckoff Band until 9:30 p.m.  There are prizes for first through third place, longest drive and closest-to-the-hole for men and women. Event registration ranges from $68 to $700.

The master of ceremonies will be KTVU-Channel 2 sports anchor Mark Ibanez. Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet is the tournament’s hole-in-one sponsor.

Sand Trap Scramble to benefit

Teen Intervention deadline Sept. 20

The Sand Trap Scramble Charity Golf Tournament, a fund-raiser benefiting local parents with at-risk teens, is Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Vintner’s Golf Club in Yountville.

The tournament has a shotgun start and is a scramble format. It features contests with prizes. Sponsorships are needed. The cost is $125 per player or $500 for a foursome, and includes greens fees, cart fee, custom scorecards, professional scoring, bag drop service, post-golf dinner and awards, and prizes. There are contests for closest-to-the-pin, longest drive and putting.
