WASHINGTON — Kevin Correia had his longest outing as a starter in more than two years, and Rajai Davis’ broken-bat double capped a three-run second inning Friday night in the San Francisco Giants’ 3-2 victory over the Washington Nationals.

The offense looks to be in good shape for Justin-Siena High School’s football team.

The Napa High varsity boys water polo team opened its season with a bang Thursday afternoon with a dominating 16-4 win over visiting McClatchy-Sacramento.

Two of the three smaller schools in the county — Napa Christian, Trinity Prep and Pacific Union Prep — will feature a new look at the top as the calendar turns to the fall season.

Napa High’s varsity gridders outscored Justin-Siena four touchdowns to one in just 15 minutes of first-team offensive play in both teams’ first appearance under the lights this season.

Scrimmage formats do not make for serious measuring sticks on a football team’s progress, but Upvalley head coaches Mike Ervin of Calistoga High and David Collinsworth of St. Helena had their points of emphasis Friday at Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School.

Coach Rony Kako’s Napa United 12-under boys soccer team recently took first place in the Wine Country Classic Tournament. 

Justin-Siena High School had the best volleyball player and girls golfer in the county last fall. Both are gone, but their coaches are back with new leaders.
