St. John the Baptist Catholic Church

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church celebrates the fifth annual Blue Mass at 10 a.m. Sept. 9. The Blue Mass began in 1934 as a way to honor fire, police, protective and emergency services personnel. St. John’s Parish continues this fine tradition. All are welcome to participate in this special mass and blessing.

In November, St. John’s celebrates its 150th anniversary. Organizers are collecting memorabilia, including photographs, news clips, drawings, illustrations, booklets or other mementos of the church, parish or school. Photos of any of the three buildings that have housed the church over the years are especially appreciated, as are pictures of church and school events. Community prayer breakfast Sept. 10

The next community-wide prayer breakfast is 7 a.m. Sept. 10 (the second Monday of the month) at 2840 Soscol Ave., Napa. This non-denominational gathering is open to anyone who values faith in their lives. Doug Menroe, from First United Methodist Church of God in Napa, presides over the invocation and blessing. An inspirational speaker starts the day off on a positive note. $15, cash or check only (made out to The Lodge), includes a buffet breakfast. Spirit of the Napa Valley Conference

The Napa Interfaith Council is accepting applications for workshop presenters for the fourth annual Spirit of the Napa Valley Conference. The 2008 theme is “Wisdom: The Search for Enlightenment,” and the date is Feb. 16 at Napa Valley Community College. Napa Interfaith Council is currently looking for presenters in the areas of the wisdom of spiritual practice, living wisdom, the wisdom of inner life, the wisdom of animals, etc. Topics are open to presenter’s choice. The workshops are 50 minutes in length. A total of 12 workshops of varying topics of interest will be selected. Presenters will receive complimentary tickets to the event, a complimentary meal and will be able to sell books, CDs and other materials. The presenter must be experienced and knowledgeable in the field of interest. A brief proposal and resume must be submitted by Sept. 15 to The Napa Interfaith Council, P.O. First Presbyterian Church gathering

Evensong at St. Stephen’s Episcopal

A series of Evensong is held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 1250 Oakville Grade Road, Oakville, beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturdays through Sept. 22. Services are led by Fr. Matthew Weber, instructor and cantor at St. Joseph of Arimathea Anglican Theological College in Berkeley. The sung setting of the office of Evening Prayer is a continuation of an ancient office of the Christian faith in the Anglican tradition. Guests welcome./Register

Crosspointe Community Church

Finding strength and contentment in the midst of difficult times is Crosspointe Community Church’s topic as they study the book of Philippians on Sunday mornings. Sunday service begins at 9:30 a.m. with light contemporary worship. Child care provided from nursery through grade five. The upcoming Children’s Harvest Party is Oct. 31. Church service in sign language

On Sundays, St. John’s Lutheran Church offers the 10:45 a.m. service in American Sign Language. This outreach ministry is led by Kylie Kirkpatrick, a certified interpreter. Community Church of Lake Berryessa

Community Church of Lake Berryessa is currently looking at how to put into practice God’s love and hope in the local community.
