5 p.m.Renald David Dominguez, a former Napa foster parent, is looking at 200 years to life in prison.

Last week a jury convicted Dominguez, 58, on 19 counts of child molestation, including oral copulation and sodomy. The crimes involved three male victims who were foster children in Dominguez’s care. The sexual abuse happened in 1999 in Napa.
In 1999, the district attorney filed 15 counts of child molestation against Dominguez involving one of his foster children who was 8 at the time.

His defense attorney successfully argued for continuances for a number of years before the case went to trial.
Because of the long time delay, in 2003, Napa County Superior Judge Stephen Kroyer dismissed the charges against Dominguez, making him a free man.

The district attorney’s office petitioned the state attorney general’s office to look into Kroyer’s ruling, said deputy district attorney Paul Gero, who prosecuted the case. Kroyer’s ruling was turned over to the state court of appeals which overturned his ruling.
The district attorney reopened the case in 2006, Gero said.

“We brought in Napa Police detective Don Winegar who was on the first arrest,” Gero said. “We found five other victims. However, the crimes against three of them were too old to prosecute, but two of those victims testified at the trial.”

“The fascinating thing about this case is that the guy was molesting these foster kids and the county kept handing the kids over to him,” Gero said.

Gero said the defense attorney said the case was a conspiracy against Dominguez because he is gay.

“His partner was living with him when the molestations happened," said Gero.

Dominguez is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 4.

" And when he gets out early, wich we all know he will, he should have a special color licence plate on his car. "

" Shame Shame Shame on this man for doing this to these children. I was one of the great foster homes that cared for these children after being abused. It is folks like this who give us hard working, right hearted families a bad name. I am so excited he may get 200 years in prison. No matter what he has done, this isn't long enough. These poor innocent boys will have a life time of issues. I hope and pray that they are in a home now that has accepted them, loved them UNCONDITIONALLY and have taught them that their is healing. My heart goes out to those boys and all foster children. "

" I need to restate what I wrote, it sounded like I cared for these particular boys after being abused. What I mean't to say, is I was once one of the foster homes who has cared for children who have been abused. Please forgive my mistake. "

" defense atty argues for continuances, which were obviously granted by someone, and then this same "judge" drops the charges due to time delay? forcing the burdened DA to appeal to the state to do what is right? Where's the outrage, where is it? taxpayers speak up! "

" Maybe we should fill up the court room on that day and jump up and cheer when he is sentenced. "

" To: I'm Speaking Up. For criminey's sake! This has nothing to do with politics or ideology! If you want to try to make a case for that, then you must also own this: In 2005, under a (federal) conservative-controlled executive, legislative, and judicial branch, violent crime increased at the fastest rate in fifteen years. "Nuff said". "
