Public Works to the rescue

We've had a street light out in front of our home for a long time. Everyone says don't waste your time calling the city to get if fixed; they won't even answer the phone. I finally got on the Internet, looked up the Public Works phone number and gave them a call.

It didn't take but a few seconds for a nice lady to answer the phone and ask how she could help me. I gave her the four digit number off the light pole and my address, and she told me she would put in a work order to have it checked out. I was pretty proud of myself, thinking maybe some day they really would fix the street light.
The very next day, I'm out walking my dogs, and there's a Napa City truck with a bucket lift parked under the light. The light bulb was replaced this morning, and tonight the street light shines bright. Thank you, city of Napa Public Works. I'm more than happy with your fine service.

" Isn't it an interesting commentary that the mere fact that a city department simply did the job our taxes pay for warrants a letter to the editor lauding its praises. I do my job every day and I've never had a letter written to the editor about me. "

" You probobly don't get comments from your boss because all you seem to do is blog. Try re-reading this comment to the editor and understand the topic. This was one persons experience with the City and was elated about the service. Have you ever stayed at a nice hotel, had a dinner at a super restaurant and decided to write a letter to the General Manager about the nice stay/meal? "

" This letter was written because so many people complain about the City of Napa workers, so this man just wanted to let people know that he has had good experiences with them. Don't rain on the parade. Grow up, and learn to appreciate things others do for you, even if you feel they "owe" it to you. "
