Oil paintings by Ning G. Mercer are featured at the Napa City-County Library in August. Mercer attributes her inspiration to travels in rural China and Mexico. The Napa Senior Center at 1500 Jefferson St., Napa, offers free volunteer-run assistance in filing homeowner and renter assistance forms. The program is administered through the Vita Program in cooperation with the Franchise Tax Board. Assistance is available every Friday from 12:30-3 p.m. through Aug. 31. You qualify if your household income for the last year was $42,770 or less; you are 62 or older, blind or disabled; you are a U.S. citizen or a designated/qualified alien; you owned and occupied your home or mobile home on Dec. 31 of last year or paid at least $50 rent each month. The Napa School of Music offers music lessons year-round for all styles of music, levels of ability and ages. Beginners and adults welcome. Guest hosts needed
Guest hosts are needed for writers and poets who will be attending Napa Valley College’s annual Napa Valley Writers’ Conference July 29 to Aug. 3. Hosts are asked to provide a bedroom and access to a bathroom. Hosts are not responsible for providing transportation, food or entertainment. In return, hosts are invited to attend the daytime craft lectures and evening readings as a guest of the Writers’ Conference. The Brown Bag program is in search of a site manager and assistant site manager to oversee the operation and delivery of food to seniors in Calistoga. The Brown Bag food program has 12 sites throughout Napa County where bags are distributed and delivered twice a month to low-income seniors. “Meals-on-Wheels” seeks volunteer drivers to ensure homebound seniors receive nutritious meals and a bit of companionship. Volunteer drivers/riders may commit to once a week on a regular basis or be called on a substitute basis. Groups may adopt a route and rotate drivers to suit their schedule. Napa’s Spinal Cord Injury Network holds a drawing for a convertible Mercedes Benz on Sept. 2 during the Symphony on the River event. Tickets for the drawing are $100 a piece, with a limit of 250 sold, for the convertible, a 1981 380SL with a removable hardtop. The car has 79,000 miles on it.
