A Baroque double-header at Copia

It’s a double header of Baroque entertainment at Copia Friday night, when Violet Grgich will perform a mini concert of harpsichord music before the Friday Night Flick, Jean Renoir’s 1952 classic, “The Golden Coach.”

In addition Grgich Hills will pour a complementary tasting of its newest vintage of zinfandel before the show, 7:15-8 p.m.
“The Golden Coach” is described as a “ravishing” 18th century comic fantasy about a viceroy who receives a gilded coach and gives it to a tempestuous star of a touring commedia dell’arte company. Renoir’s sumptuous tribute to the theater is presented in the English version the director favored. Set to the music of Vivaldi, it’s built around the vivacious, volatile actress Anna Magnani.

Grgich will set the mood for film by performing short harpsichord pieces by Antoine Forqueray (1672-1745), Jacques Duphly (1715-1789) and Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the films are $7, $6 for Copia members. Info, 259-1600.
