Athletes from the Napa Track Club collected a total of 21 medals over the weekend at the Pacific Association Track and Field Championships.

The two-day event was held in Fair Oaks, with over 800 competitors from Northern and Central California and Western Nevada participating. The Napa club had 14 young athletes competing, and each collected a medal in at least one event. Eleven new personal records were recorded, and the local club produced four meet champions in the age-based competition.
The standout performance during Saturday’s competition came from 13-year-old Olivia Husted. Her high jump of 4-10 1/4 earned first-place honors, bettered her personal record by two inches, and exceeded the qualifying standards for this year’s Youth National Championships in Chicago.

She was also a medalist in the 100-meter hurdles and had a good performance in the long jump.
Kevin Cardey also earned championship honors on Saturday, with a first-place finish in the Intermediate Boys long jump. The Justin-Siena junior added a silver medal with a new personal best in the 400 meters, took bronze in the high jump and added a new personal record in the 200 meters.

Sunday’s best performance was turned in by Silverado Middle School student Claire Miller. She had a new personal best throw of 77-3 to win the Midget Girls turbo javelin. Her mark was also good enough to earn an invitation to the National Championships.
Joining her in the winners circle Sunday was Chris Bozzini, who won the Midget boys high jump with a mark of 4-6.  The St. John’s Lutheran sixth-grader also medaled in the turbo javelin, and his marks in both events were good enough to earn entry to Nationals.

Four additional performers recorded marks good enough to gain entry into this year’s National Championships.

Ashley Augustus earned a silver medal with a new personal record (8:58) in the 1,500-meter racewalk; Brendan Cardey took bronze with a new personal best in the turbo Javelin (110-8); Erin Mills also had a new PR in the Turbo Javelin (53-5); and Dominic Giovannoni earned a silver medal in the high jump (5-11 1/4) and a bronze in the triple jump.

Club athletes earning medals and/or achieving new personal records included Mackenzie Mills (high jump silver medal and 800 meters PR); Taylor Hollabaugh (turbo javelin medalist, PR); Jennifer Cardey (long jump and triple jump medalist); Lauren Cardey (high jump medalist); Mario Giovannoni (triple jump medalist and 400 meter hurdles medalist, PR); and John Lund (200 meters medalist, PR).

The Napa Track Club will next see action on Saturday, June 16 at the Pacific Association Field Event Championships in Livermore.
