The Daughter’s Inn has new owners.

Carol and Jim Beazley, who opened the Beazley House as Napa’s first B&B back in 1981 and added the 10-room Daughter’s Inn down the street in 2003, sold the Daughter’s Inn to San Franciscans Jim Gunther and Jamie Cherry.
Cherry said that they’re not going to change anything at present, except to serve breakfast at the inn. Previously, guests went to the Beazley House for breakfast. The Daughter’s Inn is at 1938 First St. near Warren.

The Beazleys continue to operate the Beazley House.
Locals night at Copia

As of this week, Copia’s locals’ night at Julia’s Kitchen moves to Wednesday (it was Thursday).
Julia’s Kitchen will serve a three-course prix fixe menu for $35 per person, with one corkage waived for non-members for each bottle purchased.  Corkage is always waived for members for the first bottle of wine during lunch and dinner, after which corkage will be waived equal to every bottle purchased.

White’s new blog

Jim White, a local writer who created the popular but now defunct ilovenapa blog, has started a new personal blog about food and wine from a Napan’s vantage point. The blog is at www.napaman.com.

White also co-owns a bakery in Toronto called FGF Brands that makes healthy muffins and ethnic flatbreads sold by Starbucks, Whole Foods and many major supermarkets.

Chandon innovates

Domaine Chandon Winery has replaced its Reserve Blanc de Blancs and Blancs de Noirs with Reserve Sparkling Chardonnay and Sparkling Pinot Noir.

The new names exploit consumers’ love of chardonnay — and their vast interest in pinot noir.

The wines are in Chandon’s mid range, with étoile and étoile rosé the top tier and the classic line below. The classic line includes Brut Classic, Blanc de Noirs and a rosé introduced last October, plus Riche, an extra dry (slightly sweet) wine.

Chandon is also readying a top-of-the-line Tête du Cuvée for 2008.

The company uses the Domaine Chandon name for its still wines, and just introduced unoaked chardonnay and pinot noir rosé that join more conventional chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier.  The rosé and chardonnays use screw caps.

Quixote Winery open to public

Carl Doumani has opened Quixote Winery for visits by appointment, and hired industry veteran Lew Price as manager.

The winery is housed in a whimsical building designed by Viennese  artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser.  The winery specializes in Petite Sirah (Doumani calls it Petite Syrah), which Doumani popularized at his Stags’ Leap Ranch vineyard before he sold that winery to Beringer.
