While no one can predict another million dollar bid this year, the 45 lots at Saturday night’s Auction Napa Valley should attract generous bids from attendees at one of the world’s top charity wine events.

Whirlwind trips to great wine estates in Italy and France vie for bidders’ attention with vacations in Montana, Colorado and Vietnam.
A quartet of distinctive vehicles are on the auction block, including a restored 1941 Woodie Wagon, a one-of-a-kind Airstream trailer, an electric car and the first Lexus hybrid luxury sedan to roll off the assembly line.

There are dance lessons with regulars on “Dancing with the Stars” and a walk-on role on “Ugly Betty,” plus a founder’s membership in the reborn historic Aetna Springs Resort and Golf Club. Not only that, tickets to the second season of Napa Valley’s Festival del Sole will go to the top bidder of one lot, along with tickets to the Singapore Sun Festival and round-trip business class tickets to the event on Singapore Airlines.
Vintner/restaurateur Pat Kuleto will cook up a feast at his estate for one lucky bidder and friends, as well as invite them to the celebrations of his newest eateries slated to open on San Francisco’s Embarcadero in October.

On top of that, there are the nonpareil wine lots offered by Screaming Eagle, Araujo, Bond, Colgin, Duckhorn, Harlan and Shafer, perennial favorites with auction attendees.
Spirited bidding last year resulted in the lot offered by Staglin Family Vineyards going for a million bucks and change.

Whether the Staglin lot will attract the same kind of attention this year remains to be seen. It’s got a lot of potential as it offers top bidder a guided trip to Italy for four, including a pair of Maseratis to take two couples to such prestigious wine estates as Giacomo Conterno, La Spinetta and Gaja, stays in Milan, Piedmont and Venice, lunches, dinners and tastings with winery principals, a tour of the Maserati factory, round-trip business class airfare for four, along with tastings and meals in both Napa Valley and Los Angeles.

In addition to providing 100 bottles of wine from its members, the sponsoring Napa Valley Vintners is providing VIP Patron passes for two to the second season of Festival del Sole, the classical music festival patterned on a similar event in Cortona, Italy. The NVV lot also includes VIP Patron passes for two to the Singapore Sun Festival, plus round-trip business class tickets to Singapore and accommodations at the Raffles Hotel. This lot also includes the world’s first high performance digital sound system for the home designed by Steinway.

Napa Valley Vintners is also offering the highest bidder a preview edition of the yet-to-be-released Lexus LS luxury hybrid sedan with advanced parking guidance system. The trade association’s lot also includes first class airfare to Tennessee so the winning bidder can spend a weekend at the luxurious Blackberry Farm in the Great Smoky Mountains, where two spaces are reserved at the Blackberry Cooking School. Wine and a Napa Valley dinner are thrown in for good measure.

Other vehicles featured in auction lots are provided by:

• Beringer Vineyards, one-of-a-kind 2006 Special Edition Safari Airstream trailer that sleeps two adults and two children, along with 25 vintages of Beringer’s private reserve cabernet sauvignon.

• The Hess Collection, in a lot that pays tribute to Brother Timothy, celebrated cellarmaster of the Christian Brothers Winery, there’s a six-liter bottle of the limited edition Brother Timothy Mont La Salle Vineyard cabernet sauvignon, plus a corkscrew from the famed Brother Timothy collection. " Its a shame none of Napa's "old money" doesnt get used to help Napa. Still the homeless, Still the board teen's, Still the huge out of control drug problem! "

" What a buzz kill! Perhaps, Typical, you need to look into the facts and see that the generosity involved with this thing is overwhelming! Better yet - get off your hiney and do something about the things you're crying about. In this community, you can make a difference. Thanks to the Auction and the generosity of the wineries involved, we see a great example of this year after year... "
