Napan the youngest SF State grad

At barely 20 years of age, Napa native Jemma Margaret Lorenat was the youngest to graduate at last Saturday's Commencement exercises at San Francisco State University. The daughter of Napa residents Michael Lorenat and Nancy Hale, Jemma graduated from Napa High. The math major plans to go to graduate school and study the philosophy of math./Register
Justin-Siena alum earns CSU degree

Former Justin-Siena student Jessica Dever graduated May 20 from CSU Fullerton with a B.A. in communications, emphasis in entertainment studies. She completed a semester-long internship at MTV Networks and landed a coveted job at Lyons Gate Productions in Santa Monica./Register
Mt. George

has a Bright Future
On May 10, Ace Hardware of Napa awarded Mt. George Elementary School a $500 gift certificate as a local winner in the Ace Building Brighter Futures Contest. During April, Ace customers were encouraged to nominate a local needy public school to win a $500 gift certificate for a fix-up project. Janine Burt, principal of Mt. George, accepted the award from Lyle Schafer, the owner of Ace Hardware of Napa. Burt stated that she hoped to involve the students in picking a project that they feel would be of the most benefit to the school./Register

Harvest student wins National Honor

The United States Achievement Academy recognized Jenna Laughlin from Napa as a United States National Honor Student Award winner for her academic achievement. Laughlin is a 4.0 honor roll student at Harvest Middle School. She has attended John Hopkins University's gifted and talented programs, engaging in various scientific curriculums. Last summer, she attended Hawaii Pacific University to study oceanography and this summer she has been accepted to study at the University of the Americas. Laughlin is the daughter of Russell and Maria Laughlin of Napa. She is the granddaughter of Carole Porter and Pat and Don Gregory of Napa and Lee and Glenda Laughlin of Isleton./Register

Napan on Seattle Pacific Dean's List

Julie Alice Gibson of Napa was named to Seattle Pacific University's 2007 Winter Quarter Dean's List. Students on the Dean's List completed at least 12 credits and attained a 3.5 or higher GPA./Register

Local graduates from Harvey Mudd

Nicole Esclamado of Napa was awarded a bachelor or science degree in biology during Harvey Mudd College's 49th commencement ceremonies on May 13. She was one of 161 students who received baccalaureate degrees at the ceremony./Register

Vocational scholarship awarded

The winners of A Voice Found Inc. 2007 vocational scholarships are Rochelle Breyman from Napa (San Jose State University), who was awarded the Anne Cumming Nursing Scholarship; Sean Brizendine (Pacific Union College), who received the John Maestretti Business Administration Scholarship; Stiig Santos (Napa Valley College), who was awarded the Gene Genochio Industrial & Trade Technology Scholarship; Katrina Stoneback (Pacific Union College), who received the Mary Antonich Health Sciences Scholarship; and Jennifer Villasenor (Calistoga High School), who was awarded the June Genochio Early Childhood Education Scholarship. AVF is a local nonprofit designed to meet the needs of teenagers and young adults who have obstacles to education, training and employment by helping them to create their own visions for the future./Register
