Dear editor, April 19 was a day filled with grief, pain and reflection for my family.

My children and I were involved in an accident due to my inattentiveness while driving, and our children were hurt as a result. My son took the brunt of the impact.
I would like to reach out to all of the firefighters, paramedics and police officers who did an outstanding job in keeping the children and myself calm throughout our horrific ordeal, and say, “Thank you from the soul of our hearts for being the true caring professionals you are. It takes a certain type of person to effectively perform what you do, day in and day out, and you have our utmost respect and admiration for all the attention and caring you exhibited that day.”

I would also like to reach out to the wonderful people who took the time to stop and lend a hand in any way they could. I have several blankets that I would like to return to the kind person(s) who covered our children and kept them warm. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and compassion. I’d like to apologize to the other driver as well and hope this letter reaches him and finds him well.
The emergency room staff at Queen of the Valley Medical Center were spot on fantastic and handled everything with calming efficiency. We even managed a few uplifting smiles during the many procedures taking place. Our son was taken via helicopter to Oakland Children’s Hospital and received fantastic care there as well.

We have seen the system work: a symbiotic relationship of responsive, effective and compassionate professionals and caring people that made that day a little bit better for a family in dire need of a hug.
The kids are doing well and on the mend, each day a small victory. There were many an angel watching over us that day, in all forms imaginable. We thank you all so much, and God bless!

" About the inattentiveness but it doesnt take away from the fact that she wasnt paying attention and was in an accident as a direct result. If your mind isnt on driving than dont drive, we're all safer for it !! "

" I'm sorry, but you assumed incorrectly. It was a male who was driving, and I if you think you've never taken your eye off the road for one second, you are surely mistaken. We are all to blame at one time or another for inattentiveness on the road, changing the station, gazing at something on the road, grabbing the water bottle, etc. Telling the poor person not to drive "if their mind isn't on it" is rather shallow considering the nature of the incident. Why not say instead: "I'm glad everone is alright" instead of inflicting more negativity on the poor people's plight?! Or don't you feel? "
