St. Helena firefighter Sean Ashby was honored as 2007 Firefighter of the Year last week.

Each year, Firefighter of the Year is awarded based on a vote of St. Helena firefighters.
"He's a go-to guy," Fire Chief Kevin Twohey said. "If you need anything taken care of, he can do it. On an emergency scene, you give him an assignment and it's done. As far as medical skills, he's one of the best field EMT/medics that we have."

Ashby joined the department in 2000, and was first named Firefighter of the Year in 2003. An engineer/operator, Ashby drives other firefighters to and from calls. Once there, he said he runs the pump handles and gets the water flowing.
"I just count on my team," Ashby said after receiving the award. "I can't speak highly enough of the guys I work with here. ... I've learned something from everybody in this room."/For the Register
