Napa High School’s dance department presents its spring production this weekend and next. “We Dance for Mrs. V” is a tribute to the late Kris Van Treese, who died this winter of a rare encephalitis infection. Van Treese was a popular dance teacher in the program, which involves more than 400 students.

Director Hollie Johnson-Schmidt, who carried on alone with classes after Van Treese’s untimely death, has organized the dance show.
Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. They continue next week with shows May 18 and 19 at 7 p.m.

Napa native Tomi Tuel will be at Copperfield’s Books at Bel Aire Plaza Saturday, 1:30-5 p.m., to sign copies of her book, “101 Things I Learned After My Divorce.”
“It’s the first book signing I’ve ever done,” said Tuel, who graduated from Vintage in 1984. Her maiden name was Clift.

Tuel’s book is described in a reviews as “a heartfelt and funny field guide to divorce recovery. In a moving and light-hearted journey, the book shares universal truths about the emotional process of divorce — and the stages along the road to renewal. … Tuel shares her insights and real-world experience to help readers grapple with their own reality while providing an oft-needed humorous diversion from the emotional chaos of shattered relationships.”
“Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus” author John Gray called Tuel’s book “charmingly uplifting, insightful, and funny.”

Tuel observed, “For most, seeing the warning signs of divorce isn’t enough; we need tools to fix relationships that are broken. She offers tools (from the ‘Tuelbox’ at the end of each chapter) to avoid, diagnose and deal with problems. “There are no completely innocent spouses,” said Tuel, who shares “what divorce counselors don’t on such topics as post-divorce dating, getting from despair to indifference, and achieving the ideal divorce.”

Tuel, now remarried and living with her husband and two children in Sacramento, is a frequent speaker on the topic. Info, www.tomituel.com.
