Dear editor, Gandhi once said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” As young leaders, it is the job of our generation to create change and shift our realities.

Environmental issues such as global climate change, extinction, overpopulation and waste removal are all harsh realities our world is facing, yet many teenagers and people in general are unaware. As students of New Technology High School, we are taught to be innovative and create the world we would like to see. Our Environmental Science class would like to bring awareness to our community and to the global community by creating an environmentally sustainable merchandise line consisting of both clothing and bumper stickers. This clothing line will not only advocate environmental issues, but it will also inspire people to learn more about these issues and take action. It will promote an awareness and education through being made of only sustainable, environmentally friendly materials such as organic cotton and bamboo, printed with only plant-based inks. Our goal is to make environmental awareness a trend and cultural norm and, by doing so, hopefully inspire change in the world.
Unfortunately, this vision cannot be executed without proper funding. In order to start this brand of merchandise, we will need a substantial fund to pay for initial costs such as the T-shirts and bumper stickers. Bringing our dream to fruition should not prove a challenge; we simply need the funding to do so. We desperately want to create a culture of caring and educated individuals and, with a little help, this dream could be viable. The Talmud says, “If not now, when?” This truly applies to us, the future leaders. We have one earth, please help us sustain it and create a better future.

" Do you have a website? If so ask the editors of the NVR to help you by publishing it. Then put a 'Donation' button on your website and publicize it. I am sure you have enough techies to do this, but if not I'd be happy to help set you up for online donations and give you some ideas on where to publicize your fund drive. My email address is to be found at gmail. Go for it! We older folks will be leaving this earth to you, so I applaud your attempts to renovate it! --Lefty!!! "

" You and your classmates have picked a great project, not only helping to educate and raise awareness of a global crisis that we have helped to create, but offering at least a partial solution and stylish T-shirt in the bargain. You don't say however, what it is that you're asking for. Do you want donations? Where do we donate? Are you asking for pre-orders so the profits from those can be used to help finance? If so, how do we pre-order? You kids have a great idea and I'm sure your parents are very proud of you. I know I am. GOOD LUCK "

" It often feels like looking for a needle in a haystack to find positive news. Thanks Napa Register for reporting on this and many, many thanks to you young people who are making changes in this world that make your parents and your community super proud! "

" This is a shout-out to the editors of the Napa Register. Here is an opportunity for you to tell your readers about your eco-friendly publishing efforts. I've heard that in the old days the inks used to print newspapers could make newspapers into low-level hazardous waste. So, "Napa Register" editors and staff -- it is time to tell us, or, more likely tell us again, about your eco-friendly operations. I'm sure your readers would like to know the good news. And how about offering the NewTech High students and staff a tour of your facility? --Lefty!!! "
