A 15-year-old Oakland runaway was stabbed after he left a gathering of several other guests Sunday night at a home in Napa.

The boy, who was stabbed twice in the neck with a two-to four-inch knife, was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, treated and released to the custody of his father, Napa Police Sgt. Don Honey said.
Napa police detectives are investigating the assault to determine if it is gang related, Honey said. No one has been arrested in the stabbing.

“We think we might possibly have an ID for the suspect,” Honey said Monday afternoon. “We have not found the weapon.”
The violence started Sunday around 7:30 p.m., at a home in the 2200 block of West Pueblo Avenue.

According to witnesses, the victim had been drinking alcohol and was intoxicated, Honey said. “He was asked to leave the residence. He yelled comments at the other guests and left. I don’t know what those comments were.”
The boy was on the street a short distance from the West Pueblo Avenue house when he was confronted by a male and female, Honey said. Detectives believe the pair also attended the gathering.

There was a short struggle and an argument, and the victim was stabbed.

A witness told police the victim fell to the ground. The witness also saw blood on the victim’s neck, called police and waited for them to arrive, Honey said.

" More little hoodlems from Oakland bringing their crime up to Napa. Oakland is a nice place. Why not stay there? I heard that Oakland is the best place in the country to be homeless or a runaway. "

" TO: 'Just what we needed' - Yes...let's blame the victim based on where he's from. That makes perfect sense. Being underage and intoxicated is not a good combination. But it doesn't justify being stabbed even if he was mouthing off (and most likely, the culprit was someone who lives in NAPA from the sound of it)...it sounds as though you believe he deserved this because he's from out of town. I could maybe see where you're coming from if he were the person doing the stabbing, but to put the fault on him merely for coming here is ridiculous. Open your eyes...there is crime EVERYWHERE. In today's Register alone there are 3 separate articles related to violent acts - a beating of a 13 year old kid by a group of men, a man loitering with a tire iron hidden down his drawers and this piece. If you think you're immune to violence because you live in Napa this should serve as a wake up call to you. "

" The victim was from Oakland... no where in this story does it say that the person who stabbed him was from oakland. Many things that happen here are not published in the newspaper...you would be surprised about what really goes on in this town. You would be surprised what teenagers my age see here in NAPA done by NAPA residents. "just what we needed" be happy that this newspaper is as real as these things get for you. "

" hey folks- listen up, we are a very thin blue line away from urban crime. This community better wake up if you want to maintain our relatively low crime rate. Zero tolerance with stiff penalties will help to make Napa a place thugs will avoid. "

" "just what we needed", what are you talking about? if you read the article right, it says that the oakland kid was STABBED, not the STABBER....how does him being stabbed equate to him bringin "oakland violence" to napa....if anything, it gives even more evidence that it is not "outside" influence that is causing the violence in napa, it's napa's citizens themselves! open your eyes and stop blaming other towns for what our own adult population has allowed the younger generation to become! i am 17 years old and apparently i can see the world we live in more realistically than you can! in regards to "jarvis" 'z comment, THANK YOU!!!! there is enough discrimination in Napa because of connotations relating to gangs. We don't need the register adding to the problem by printing things such as that in every article even remotely related to violence...... "

DH wrote on May 8, 2007 11:19 AM:

" No Jarvis Gang related is real, stop ignorning it, these kids think and wanna be GANG MEMBERS cause it's cool, you can't look the other way, GANG RELATED is here already in the clothes the music everywhere, we have to stop it! "

D-You can't judge a book by it's cover! wrote on May 8, 2007 1:32 PM:

" Yes, gangs are a problem. However, there is MUCH MORE to being a gang member then what you wear &/or listen to. It's who you run with, what you claim, how many stripes you've earned. In some gangs you have to be jumped in 2 belong, in some cases they beat you so bad that break your bones and put you in the hospital. There are initiations, some times you have to kill just to get in & you get out pretty much the same way you get in, or there is no getting out & the same gang that had your back kills you. So please realize that clothes & music are not what makes someone a gang member. That is just what is "in." Everyone justs needs to face the fact that many of us will listen to rap and many males will where baggy clothes. No one is going to change what the "younger generation" feels is "in" except for the younger generation. Get over it! Clothes & music do not make anyone "gangsters." Please Take it from some one who is in the younger generation. Some of you really just don't know, & its really just sad! "

Napa is Gang turf now! wrote on May 8, 2007 2:51 PM:

" The days of white picket fencess and children playing kickball in the street are long gone. The crimes occuring in Napa are not lessening, but increasing. My recent visit back to my old home town proved all this to be true... someone was murdered, news of gang activity in the papers, crime everywhere, and I have never seen so many policemen patrolling the streets of Napa... which is a good thing I guess, since Napa seems to need it! Napa is no longer a safe place to raise your children or house the elderly. I'm glad I got out when I did. "

To ALL wrote on May 8, 2007 4:34 PM:

" I have to say I agree with all of you in some way! Not every crime is "Gang Related", but they have to blame someone. As far as for what makes someone a "Gangster", clothes and music are not it!! I am a 23 year old single mother who still enjoys listening to rap/r&b/hip hop music and does that make me a Gang Member? No not even close! I grew up here in Napa, and have witness more gang related violences when I was in High school then Now, Napa is getting better, but still has a long way to go, its like Napa takes 3 steps forward and 2 steps back. I was just comenting to my boss that Napa does not need anymore hotels or spas, what it needs is an after school program for all ages! like a dance class/break dancing class to keep kids out of the streets and doing something they enjoy! a community base building with volunteers, and I for one am willing to volunteer!! We need to unite for our kids futures! let them be kids and enjoy their friends. Now whos with me? "

D wrote on May 8, 2007 5:52 PM:

" Geeze people, there are gangs here in Napa and the violence is real, the days of two boys getting into a fist fight are over, now they use guns and knives....Westwood is a growing gang turf, amature rappers even have songs out about the stabbings , dugs ect in " the westside " Those who dont belive its real need to step outside your glass house... "

D wrote on May 8, 2007 9:50 PM:

" I will agree that Napa is not as safe as it used to be but if you think Napa is "gang turf" then its time for a reality check. Im 19 years old, raised in Napa & I can honestly tell you that there are NO real gangsters!! Get real, the murders that have been commited in Napa are by adults, & if you read the articles none of the murders are gang affiliated. Actually I cant think of ONE recent murder in Napa that has been. & if we are going to talk about amature rappers from NAPA that rap about stabbings then name one. I can almost guarantee that you cant. I know a very large number of "amature rappers" from Napa & they dont rap about that. "

To ALL wrote on May 9, 2007 12:44 PM:

" I have to agree with the fact that some people are blind to see what Napa will become in a couple of years, if they continue to build more hotels ect. to attract tourist, the bigger Napa becomes the more violence there will be, and it's not all Gang Related. its due to the fact that there is nothing for these young people to do in this town, are they going wine tasting? or riding the wine train? or going to the many hotel spas? NO, they need something to do, and if there is nothing positive for them, then they will turn to negative behavior. TO All Parents reading this, please be aware that together we can unite and make a difference in out town, we need to open a place for them, where they can be themselves, be creative and get to know who lives in their town, and not hate eachother "

" Seriously though, Actions speak louder than words, and if we want something done in this town, we need to make our actions seen and our words herd by everyone, because I'm pretty sure that most, if not all families here in Napa want something to be done for our youths, I'm not one to know all, but If I don't have the answer, I want to know how to find it! and I know that we CAN do something, talk to someone ask for help in this matter, I just don't know where to begin. But I do know that we need to find that place sooner rather than later, whether it be a piece of land,or a vacan lot or an empty building because they are all being bought by big companies that are not even local! and they are building their stores, hotels and spas. an example: my infant son's daycare center lost their lease because the owner wants to build more office suites, there is only one other infant daycare center in Napa and their full! where does this leave all the families who took their kids and babies there? Napa has so many Hotels, so may Apartment buildings (most are not occupied) so why are there still homeless people? Not enough Jobs to be filled? ugh! there is too many problems to be delt with, but the most important should be out youths!! bottom line!! "

Work wrote on May 9, 2007 9:54 PM:

" How about letting them work. Everyone in my family started working when we were 11, 12, or 13. Picking prunes in ole prune Town. If the school system would let the kids work. getting a work permit is practically impossible. Thats why all the ileagals have the jobs us kids did in ole Napa. Kids need to work!!! "

To ALL wrote on May 10, 2007 9:24 AM:

" WORK!??? are you kidding me, I think the school does a good job with the rules of working students, they need to focus on their education and getting a good job once they are out of school, and if your wondering why just take a look at your spelling of Illegals(ileagals), that is why they need to focus on a good education, my little sis goes to high school and has a part time job, and it was not hard to get her work permit from school! and like I have said many times before we need to unite! this has nothing to do with being Illegal, race, color! you need to stop blaming others for what you cannot accomplish! and start to think that Napa would be better of as a small town with different cultures, and not with so many dam hotels! People of Napa these are our kids! one day we will be depending on them, wouldn't you rather raise them to love one another than to hate anyone who is not of the same race, color or from the same country?
