The nationally renowned Aspen Santa Fe Ballet performs at the Napa Valley Opera House on Friday.

The performance includes “Flight of Angels” by Edwaard Liang, “Left Unsaid” by Nicolo Fonte, “Sinatra Suite” by Twyla Tharp, “Pointeoff” by Jorma Elo and “Light Rain” by Gerald Arpino.
An eclectic, innovative dance company with a solid foundation in classical ballet, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet has made a lasting impression with a company of 10 versatile, energetic dancers performing a sophisticated repertoire featuring the world’s foremost choreographers. Warmly embraced by two home communities, Aspen and Santa Fe, the company performs year round and also presents notable guest dance companies. International appearances and touring throughout the United States have earned the company glowing reviews and enthusiastic audience receptions. The Boston Herald predicts, “If there’s a classically trained company of the future, it’s Aspen Santa Fe Ballet.”

The company began in 1995 when Aspen Ballet Company and School founder Bebe Schweppe invited Joffrey Ballet dancers Jean-Philippe Malaty and Tom Mossbrucker to create a new professional dance company based in Aspen. The hybrid ballet was formed when the company partnered with Santa Fe. The resulting company was shared by two communities.
The company quickly found its legs and landed in the spotlight. After successful debuts at the prestigious Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and the Joyce Theater in New York, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet was invited back to perform a second time at Jacob’s Pillow and a total of three times at the Joyce — a remarkable accomplishment for a company of any size.
