College/Prep Report: Crescines cards 76 to lead Storm golfers at Big 7 tourney

John Crescines shot a 4-over-par 76 Tuesday to lead the Napa Valley College men’s golf team to a sixth-place finish with a 406 total in a Big 7 Conference tournament at Riverview Golf and Country Club, a neutral site, in Redding.
“It was a good, steady day for John,” said Storm coach Jim Wiechers. “He drove the ball well.”
Brian Detweiler and Chad Allen had 81’s, Matt Melser shot 83, Jay Wood had an 85, and Heedrin Bustamante had a non-scoring 86.
Sierra-Rocklin won with a 359, San Joaquin Delta-Stockton was second with a 361, Santa Rosa Junior College was third with a 373, American River-Sacramento was fourth with a 378, Butte-Oroville came in fifth with a 404, and Shasta-Redding was seventh with a 413 total.
Aaron Briones of Delta was the medalist with a 67. Briones was followed by Joey Ferrari of Delta (68), Steve Edman of Sierra (69), and Gordon Kashiwagi of American River (69).
Napap Valley continues its season May 1 in a Big 7 tournament at Empire Ranch, a neutral site, in Folsom.
Varsity Softball

The Braves picked up 12 hits in Tuesday’s Marin County Athletic League win over Terra Linda.
Pitchers Lauren Mallin and Caroline DeVincenzi combined on a four-hitter. DeVincenzi picked up the win in relief, pitching three shutout innings.
Justin-Siena’s highlight was Carly Orris’ three-run homer in the fifth inning. She also added a double. Amanda Raffin was 3-for-4 while DeVincenzi was 2-for-4 with a double. Other hitters included Rachelle Whitehead (1-for-4, RBI), Hillary Schwartz (1-for-1), Julie Ring (1-for-4, RBI), Jenna Lawson (1-for-3, RBI) and Sammy Morphee (1-for-1)
Against Berean Christian freshman Keeley Ray led the offense by hitting 4 -for-4 with a walk and three RBIs. Fellow freshman Molly Bell was 4-for-5. Hillary Shwartz, Taylor Putnam and DeVincenzi each added two hits with one of the hits being a three-run homerun from DeVincenzi. Carly Orris also added a hit for the Braves’ total of 15.
Schwartz started on the mound for the Braves and earned the win going 31⁄3 innings while Mallin pitched 21⁄2 and DeVincenzi closed the game to bring home the win.
“I wanted to keep this team off balance and each time they came up to bat they were facing a different pitcher,” Braves head coach Trisha Wall said. “This strategie work really well by not letting the other team adjust to our pitching. Offensively we came out very strong and agressive. The girls played extremely well and came together as a team and believed in each other.”
Justin-Siena hosts Marin Catholic on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Austin Amaral medaled with a 37 in Wednesday afternoon’s match at Chardonnay’s Par-36. Ryan Carson (38), Danny Cacho (41), Corey Hamilton (42) and Will Kelley (43) rounded our the scorers for the Braves (12-5 overall, 9-4 MCAL).
Varsity Girls Track & Field
• Napa 70, Vacaville 65
Susan Jackson and Erika Bomdahl grabbed eight total first-place finishes to lead the Indians to their first victory over the Bulldogs in years, on Wednesday afternoon.
Jackson took top honors in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches), long jump (15-9), triple jump (36-4) and the 200 (27.84 seconds). Blomdahl anchored the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams that crossed the finish line at 52.47 and 4:25.9 respectively. She also won the 100 (17.75) and 300 hurdles (50.9).
Trella Chrisco placed second in the 1600 and third in the 800, Kayla Hutchings was second in the 100 and 300 hurdles, Nina Pardo placed second in both the 400 and 800, while Francesca Pascale was third in the 3200.
Maria O’Byrne (second, shot put), Madelyn Arbios (second, long jump), Monica Rivera (third, discus and shot), Rylee McGill (second 100; third, 200) and Monica Garcia (third, long jump) also performed well for Napa (5-4 Monticello Empire League).
Varsity Boys Track & Field
• Vacaville 82, Napa 54
Despite the loss Wednesday, several Indians (6-3 MEL) scored personal bests. George Velluci was third in the 110 hurdles (17.11) and long jump (18-6.5), Jake Gonsalves was second in the discus (140-5) and Karl Delaroche was second in the triple jump (41.1.5) for PRs.
Also clocking in quickly was the 4x400 relay team of Jessie Featherstone, George Taylor, Doug Mitchell and Brett Hawkins who finished at 3:30.8 for second place and a new PR. Hawkins, Eric Frost, Delaroche and Vinh Gruenhagen were first in the 4x100 at 45.73.
Hawkins was second in the 400 (52.25), Taylor placed first in teh 800 (2:01.1) while Featherstone was just a second behind him for second. Gruenhagen was third in the 200 (24.2) and Josh Ohlandt and Dominic Giovannoni were first and second respectively in the high jump with heights of 6-0. Giovannoni’s jump was a career-best.
Max Trejo was third in the discus, Delaroche was second in the triple jump and Paul DeMaggio finished first in the long jump with a distance of 21-3 for his season’s best.
Varsity Baseball
• Trinity Prep 24, Sacramento Country Day 2
Luke Kersting picked up his third win of the year for Trinity Prep (5-7 overall, 4-5 Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League/Northern Pacific Athletic Conference), allowing eight hits, striking out seven and hitting a batter in five innings Tuesday in Sacramento. It was the third win in a row for Trinity Prep.
Dan Cravalho was 2-for-2 with a two-run single, two walks and two runs scored, Alvin Guevarra had an RBI single, Ed Thoits was 1-for-2 with a walk, and Peter Kersting had an RBI single to lead the Crusaders’ offense.
Varsity Boys Golf
• Vintage sixth in tournament
Vintage shot a 415 total to finish sixth out of 18 schools Wednesday in the 28th annual Tony Horton Memorial Tournament at Manteca Park Golf Course. Monte Vista-Danville won with a 388 and Lodi was second with a 390.
Grant Parker led Vintage with a 79. Brandon Duncan, Brent Moore, Andrew Connelly and Benedikt Limberger all shot 84’s. James Edson had a non scoring 85. Vintage faces Napa in a nine-hole MEL match today at Silverado Resort starting at 2:44 p.m.
Freshman Baseball
• Justin-Siena 3, Novato 0
Jordan Grubbs pitched the game of his life Wednesday in a no-hitter that was one walk away from a perfect game. He threw 82 pitches and picked up six strikeouts. He and his defense played errorless baseball.
Eddie Aguayo was 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base, Dante Particelli was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run, Richie Merlo was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Tom Keown was 2-for-3 while Michael Slinsen scored once.
The Braves (8-10-1 overall, 4-8 MCAL) host Novato for a double header on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
