Justin-Siena graduate Richard Elmore placed 12th in the “B section” of the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.33 for the Air Force Academy track and field team Saturday at the prestigious Oregon Invitational in Eugene. Elmore is a senior and is from Napa.

Napa golfer Ryan Trask made a hole-in-one for the Chico State men’s team at the 35th annual Buzzini Invitational, which was held at the Turlock Golf & Country Club last week. Trask, who played golf for Napa High and Napa Valley College, aced the par-3, 197-yard 15th hole using a 4 iron during the first round. It was his first career ace.
Trask (73-77-79 — 229) tied for 44th and Chico finished seventh in the 17-team field.

The 2007 CIF State Track and Field Championships, one of the top meets in all of California, is June 1-2 at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Sacramento City College.

The UC Berkeley football team finished its spring drills earlier this month with a practice before a crowd of over 2,000 fans at Memorial Stadium.
Nate Longshore completed 9-of-13 passes for 130 yards and three touchdowns to lead the offense.

Tadd Fujikawa, a Hawaiian high school sophomore amateur golfer and the youngest player to make a PGA Tour cut in 50 years, accepted one of the Reno-Tahoe Open’s unrestricted sponsor exemptions for the July 30-Aug. 5 tournament at Montreux Golf & Country Club in Reno.
Fujikawa tied for 20th at the Sony Open in his PGA Tour debut in January. He qualified for the 2006 U.S. Open, making him the youngest player to do so since 1941. He missed the cut after shooting rounds of 81 and 77.
In February, Fujikawa won the Hawaii Pearl Open, a tournament started in 1979 that’s been called Hawaii’s must lucrative annual local golf event. With his win, he became the first amateur since 1992 to take first place.

The V Foundation for Cancer Research will unite with the Lance Armstrong Foundation to fund a $2 million grant for a unique collaborative effort. This grant will enable a new cancer survivorship center to join the LIVESTRONG Survivorship Centers of Excellence Network.
The LIVESTRONG Survivorship Centers of Excellence are intended to serve as comprehensive, one-stop sources of information, care and services for cancer survivors, family members and service providers. The network was designed to help accelerate the pace of progress in addressing the needs of the growing survivor community.
The V Foundation was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, the Foundation has raised more than $60 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide.
The Lance Armstrong Foundation was founded in 1997 by Lance Armstrong, cancer survivor and champion cyclist, to inspire and empower people affected by cancer.
