Art notes: Garage band 101
Napa High School played host Saturday night to the Napa School of Music’s Garage Band 101 concert.
The concert, held in the Napa High School’s Lecture Theater, saw more than cheering audience members enjoying selections from Van Halen, Jet, Green Day, Scorpions, Guns N’ Roses, Blondie, Joan Jett and Cream, all performed by local kids, participants in the School of Music’s rock band program. The program takes kids through 12 weeks of intensive rehearsal.
The Napa School of Music opened in January of 2005, implemented the rock band program shortly after opening when the school’s director, Peter Sykes, saw that there was a need in Napa for this type of activity for the town’s budding rockers.
The concert will be repeated Sunday at the Donaldson Way Elementary School in American Canyon at 5 p.m. Tickets may be purchased from the Napa School of Music or American Canyon School of Music for $5 or at the concert on Sunday for $7.
