“Take a Chance on Art,” opens Friday at the Napa Valley Museum. An impressive list of local artists have contributed works to this annual fundraiser for the museum. Beginning at a Friday evening reception, viewers may buy “chances” to win their favorite work in the form of $5 tickets to put in the raffle boxes by each work. Tickets are available throughout the month, until the winning tickets are chosen at a reception April 28.

Eric Nelson, executive director of the museum noted, “When visitors to the Napa Valley Museum ‘Take a Chance on Art’ they support both the museum and the local arts community. And how often can you take home an original work of art for five bucks? The odds are better than in Vegas.” /Register
Viewers can see the national dance and pom champions, the Napa High School Spritleaders, perform their winning routines from the recent competitions in Orlando, Fla., on Napa Community Public Access  TV  Channel 28, Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. and Sundays at 7:30 p.m. during April. Their performance at the Hard Rock Live stage at Universal Studios includes their jazz dance routine — for which one judge gave them a perfect 10 score — and their technically difficult pom routine in which they passed poms with their feet.  Also included is an interview with head coach Hollie Schmidt and the spirit leaders.  /Register

The paintings of John Bonick are featured in a solo exhibition at Robert Mondavi Winery in Oakville, April 15 through June 4. Bonick’s paintings derive from his fascination with flow and movement, and his images center around forms he refers to as channels — metaphors for connection that unites information, biology and spirit.
The forms, he said, could easily be called by other names: stems, branches, courses, veins, nerves, fibers, routes, maps, actions, reactions, trails, vines, meridians and blood lines — all channels that pulse with continuous movement.

“The thickest pieces are an outgrowth of the same flow but bend more towards layers, tangles and density, just like history, narratives and the inside of most people’s heads,” Bonnick said.
A native of the Chicago area, Bonick has lived and worked in the Napa Valley for 18 years. A photographer as well as a painter, he and his wife, Dona, operate Kopol Bonick studio, specializing in events, portraits and commercial assignments. Bonick has work in many national collections and recently sold work to the new flagship Bloomingdales store in San Francisco.
