Napans Jesika Salt and Andrew Nolan appear on stage in Solano College Theatre’s production of “The Underpants,” a comedy adapted by Steve Martin and based on a play by Carl Sternhein, which opens Friday.

Martin, the renowned comic actor and author of “Picasso at the Lapine Agile,” provides a wild satirical adaptation of the classic German play about Louise and Theo Maske, a couple whose conservative existence is shattered when Louise’s bloomers fall down in public. Although she pulls them up quickly, Theo is persuaded the incident will cost him his job as a government clerk. Louise’s momentary display does not result in the feared scandal, but it does attract two infatuated men, each of whom wants to rent the spare room in the Maske’s home. Oblivious of their amorous objectives, Theo splits the room between them, happy to collect rent from both the foppish poet and the whiny hypochondriac.
Directed by Joseph DeLorenzo, “The Underpants” brings together a young cast from throughout the North Bay, who are students or recent graduates of the Actor Training Program at Solano College.

“The Underpants” will play at the Harbor Theatre, 720 Main St., in downtown Suisun through April 22, every Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
