You, too, can help get a handle on crime

Our community has experienced a number of serious crimes in recent weeks.

Dress code: Put yourself in students' shoes

While appropriate dress does serve its purpose in schools for learning capabilities, it fails to serve its purpose in the students' lives. I have grown up in schools that allow the choice of what clothing to wear. When middle and high school came along, we couldn't wear red or blue, or shirts that were inappropriate, suggestive, offensive or had to do with politics, sex or alcohol.

A missed chance to address the dress code

In March of 1999, I offered the Napa Valley School District and the Napa County Office of Education, as well as all the high and middle schools within the district, an opportunity to provide student participation in a debate regarding dress codes.

A blow to old Napa
