NOTES AND QUOTES for a Thursday in the Napa Valley:

Anthony Malisauskas, a junior at Vintage High School, won the Northern California championship with the Vacaville Jets’ midget 16 “A” ice hockey team at the Oakland Ice Center.
Malisauskas and the Jets defeated the Santa Clara Blackhawks 7-4 on Friday, lost to the Tri-Valley Blue Devils 6-3 on Saturday. On Sunday, they tied the San Jose Junior Sharks 2-2 before beating the Blue Devils in the finals, 3-2.

The Jets now move on to the state finals, which take place at the Logitec Ice Center in San Jose, April 14 and 15.
Vacaville is also the home rink for many other Napa hockey players. In fact, last year 47 Napa youths attended a one-day ice hockey clinic at the Vacaville Skating Center. This was such a success that the rink decided to do free hockey for a month.

Every Saturday, from March 31 until April 21, the Vacaville Skating Center will be offering free instruction in the basics of ice hockey to all youth, ages 5 and over. The Saturday sessions will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. All ice skates, sticks, and helmets will be supplied by the rink free of charge. For further information, call the Vacaville Skating Center at 455-0225 or go to www.vacavilleicesports.com.

Silver and Black Productions, the Oakland Raiders’ in-house television production operation, recently taped an upcoming episode of The Raiders Report, in front of a live studio audience. The show will air in Northern California on Comcast SportsNet West Saturday at 10 p.m. The show also airs on The Dish Network and DirecTV at the same time.

This is the first time Silver and Black Productions has taped any of their three weekly shows in front of a live audience.

The taping took place at Raiders headquarters in Alameda, serving as an opportunity for the organization to give something back to the fans. An enthusiastic group of Raider season ticket holders filled the team’s auditorium and was greeted with an opening performance by the Raiderettes.

Throughout the taping, audience members had an opportunity to ask guests and host J.T. “The Brick,” questions. The guests for the show included current Raiders Stuart Schweigert, Kevin Boothe and Isaiah Ekejiuba, as well as Raiders radio voice Greg Papa and Raiders legend George Atkinson.

The Raiders Report, in its second year of production, provides fans with insight and an overview as to what is going on with the team and the organization throughout the year. The Raiders are the only team in the NFL to have a one-hour, year-round show.
