3 p.m.A free-for-all at a Lake Berryessa resort Wednesday night landed a Dixon man and a teen behind bars.

Deputies responded about 10 p.m. to a brawl involving about 50 people at the Spanish Flats Resort on Berryessa Knoxville Road, sheriff’s Capt. John Robertson said. The fight involved campers from two separate campsites, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Clark.
The ruckus started when a group of campers, who were playing cards inside their tent, was confronted by Ricardo Javier Ruiz, who was drunk, Clark said.

“He (Ruiz) wandered over to that campsite from his campsite and started picking a fight with the people inside the tent,” Clark said. “One of the guys took a punch at (Ruiz) and knocked him down. That started a big ruckus between the guys in the tent and (Ruiz’s) group.”
During the melee Ruiz allegedly broke a picnic table, pulled a sign from the ground and was swinging a lantern at the campers.

Ruiz, 18, was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor battery.
The 17-year-old male was arrested for violation of probation out of Solano County. He suffered minor injuries during the fight and was treated at the hospital and turned over to Solano law enforcement.

" Most of the time it is males ages 17-19 who get in all these fights and start trouble when they're drunk. I think it must be the fact that they don't have much tolerance for alcohol and they think they are tough guys. They also probably don't know what jail is like and don't realize that fighting is not worth going to jail for when the fight is for no reason except testosterone and alcohol driven. "

" I visited and stayed at Spanish Flats last summer for 2 nights to hear the same kind of craziness that has lately been reported in the paper. All we heard all night, both nights were Drunks screaming and fighting. All night long we considered packing up and leaving however, to be honest our group was so much in fear we were at times scared to come out of our tents. Not only was it my experience but my friends were there on another occassion and they witnessed many fights. This is such a sad thing for many of us living in Napa who love to have close access to a the Lake, but I for one will avoid that place during night time at all costs. "

" you'll find this behavior with the weekend campers. the trailer owners love and respect the lake and each others space, they are the ones who have cared for the lake the past 40 years. the weekend campers are the ones who don't respect the lake or others. its sad that in a few short years it will be nothing but short term campers that don't care about the lake or others. they just want to go get drunk and cause trouble, thanks BLM. " I moved to Rancho Monticello in 1979 and I have never seen a fight at that resort. The management and staff kept everything running very smoothly. I will very much miss "going to the lake", to my familiar stomping grounds. I know the lake will still be there... just wont be the same. "

" Why did the 18yr old not get " drunk in public " added to his charges. If law enforcement arrest and or ticket these under ages drinkers more , then the young drinkers will less likly go to that lake . Leave then for clearlake ha ha . "
