Landscaping 29/Trancas

Register staff

After a two-year delay, Caltrans will begin landscaping the Highway 29/Trancas Street interchange.

Installation of irrigation is scheduled to start next week, requiring the closure of stretches of highway shoulder, said Barry Martin, city spokesman.

The $1.1 million landscaping project is part of the $55 million interchange that was fully opened to traffic in the fall of 2004.

The Caltrans contractor will be planting mostly native shrubs, and buckeye and oak trees. Nearly a mile and a half of highway frontage will be landscaped from south of Sierra Avenue to north of Lincoln Avenue.

The project will run into the summer./Register
