How to make a good egg
By MELISSA RAYWORTH, For the Associated Press
Here are some tips for accessorizing eggs, based on ideas from Cathie Filian and Steve Piacenza, co-hosts of DIY Network's "Creative Juice"
Confetti Eggs
Supplies:
Eggs
Dyes
Large needle
Skewer
Drying rack
Confetti
Tape
Trimmings
Construction paper
Glue
Directions:
-- Dye egg using your choice of dyes, and dry.
-- Using a large needle, make a hole in one end of the egg. Gently pierce the egg until the opening is about the size of a penny. Insert the skewer into the egg and stir to break up egg white and yolk. Carefully dump contents, rinse egg and invert onto a rack for drying.
-- Roll a piece of paper into a funnel. Insert the small end of the funnel into the egg and fill the egg with confetti. Seal the hole on the egg with a piece of tape. Trim egg as desired with paint, glitter, ribbon, etc.
-- Crack the egg on top of an unsuspecting friend!
Note: If you want to further obscure the taped-over hole, Filian and Piacenza suggest taking this step before trimming the egg: Create a cone from a square piece of paper and secure with tape. Place egg, tape side down, inside the cone, and glue into place. Decorate cone.
Decoupaged Eggs
Supplies:
Eggs
Magazines ,gift wrap or greeting cards
Small or medium paintbrush
Decoupage medium or white glue
Directions:
-- Cut out pictures or designs from magazines, gift wrap or greeting cards.
-- Place on clean eggs (previously dyed if desired) with a small dot of glue. Using a medium paintbrush, coat egg with a decoupage medium or a mixture of white glue and water, covering the cut-out.
-- You may need several layers of glue, drying in between coats.
