Hill
Joseph and Alice (Neihart) Hill of Napa celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 25. Joe and Alice's family hosted a party at Napa Elks Lodge to celebrate the couple's anniversary. The 70 guests present included family and friends from near and far. Four generations were present -- Hetta Hobson, matron of honor at the couple's wedding in 1947 came from Elk Grove. Hartzel Hill, who was best man, was also present.
The room was beautifully decorated. White lattice work was placed around the room, and it was decorated with pink netting and pink and white balloons. Vases of white tulips sat on a square of pink in the middle of round tables covered in white cloths.
After a delicious luncheon and a Champagne toast to the couple, a video of Joe and Alice's life was shown. It included childhood pictures to the present and was accompanied by songs of the era.
As the party concluded, many with cameras were snapping pictures. It is not often this many family members are together in one place.
Joseph and Alice Hill were married on Feb. 23, 1947, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Napa. They have both spent over 65 years in Napa County.
Alice especially enjoys being with family and friends. She enjoys reading, dancing, playing bocce ball and going to Reno to see the shows and play the slots. She is a former member of Entre Nous (Napa Women's Club) and a 27-year member of Napa Valley Republican Women. She enjoys monthly luncheons with "the lunch bunch," a group of 12 lady friends.
Joe is happiest when he can do something to help his children or grandchildren. He has enjoyed hunting, playing pool or horseshoes and enjoys golf. He also likes to dance. Joe is a former 20/30 member and a former Rotary member. He formerly served on many committees as a member of Napa County Farm Bureau. He has belonged to Napa Elks Lodge #832 over 40 years and is a retired member of the Moose Lodge. Joe worked as a farmer and cattleman and retired at the age of 75.
