St. A's Decathlon Team takes first

Last week, the St. Apollinaris Decathlon Team took first place in the 2007 Junior High Academic Decathlon Competition for Santa Rosa Diocese. This win qualifies the team to compete in the State competition in May. This will be the eighth time St. Apollinaris has qualified to compete at the state level. St. A's is the first Catholic Academic Decathlon team in the state to have won the championship twice (2001 and 2005).
Participating students are: Ross Friscia, math; Preet Johl, English; Megan De Valle, religion; Samantha Gafvert, fine arts; Alice Hyde, current events; Max Kampton, literature; Jenna Joske, science; Zakary Morgan, Super Quiz specialist; Rachel Gauthier, Super Quiz specialist; Sarai Aguirre, history. The team is supported by all of the teachers and staff, but the majority of preparation is led by parent volunteer, Michelle Hoffman, the designated team coach./Register

Napa student named to Dean's List
Kathryn Leigh Birdsall, a senior from Napa, was among the 635 students named to the Gonzaga University Dean's List for fall semester 2006. Students must earn a 3.5-3.69 grade point average to be listed. One of 28 Jesuit colleges in the U.S., Gonzaga is located in Spokane, Wash./Register

TCU announces fall 2006 scholars
Danielle Coker of Napa was recently named to the 2006 TCU Scholars list for obtaining a 4.0 at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas./Register
