Bear Flag Revolt Presentation
Sonoma dentist and author Peter Meyerhof speaks at 2:30 p.m. today on the new information and increased significance of the Bear Flag Revolt that his research on Bear Flag Revolt leader Dr. Robert Semple has revealed. Napa leaders read to kids

“Napa Leaders, Readers for Kids,” a popular event in which community leaders read to local youngsters, returns to the Napa Main Library on March 10 and 11, with Napa Mayor Jill Techel as the first reader of the day at 1 p.m., March 10. The final reader that day will conclude at 5 p.m. All stories on Saturday are in English; everyone is welcome to come, regardless of language. On March 11, the library opens at 2 p.m., and leaders of the local Hispanic community will read to those in attendance. The Sunday event will conclude at 5 p.m. The Sunday stories are all in Spanish and, again, all are welcome to attend.

Job Fair

The Napa Senior Center offers free, volunteer-run tax preparation services for middle- and low-income taxpayers and seniors 60 and over, administered through AARP. Academic scholarships available

The Young Cancer Survivor Scholarship Program of the American Cancer Society is accepting applications. Senior health fair

Residents living in and around St. Helena can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke. Academic Booster Club

Napa High School Academic Booster Club is sponsoring dine and donate events at Keva Juice and Fazerrati’s Pizza in March. Yountville Elementary fundraiser

Yountville Elementary School P.T.A.’s 14th Annual Red and White Affair is on March 10, 6-10 p.m., at Silverado Vineyards, 6121 Silverado Trail. This is the primary fundraiser for Yountville Elementary. Wildlife Rescue Center

Volunteers are needed to take one three-hour shift a week throughout the season at the Wildlife Rescue Center of Napa Valley. The season runs from early May through late August. Donate to Salvation Army

The Salvation Army in Napa provides a hot lunch to 75-100 of Napa’s homeless, hungry and unfortunate five days a week. They also provide a packaged evening meal to approximately 50 patrons at the South Napa Homeless Shelter. Donations of beef products such as hamburger, stew meat and roasts are requested. If you are emptying a freezer or have extra meat portions and want to donate them, the Army would be appreciative. Donations can be made by contacting the head cook, Pat Calcote, at the Salvation Army at 226-8150, ext. 106, Monday through Friday.
