City players named to All-MEL girls basketball team

Vanessa Priest (Napa) and Jessica Zeller (Vintage) were named to the All-Monticello Empire League girls basketball team. They were joined by league co-MVPs Leilanie Lewis (Fairfield) and Jamie Capoot (Wood).
Fairfield’s head coach, Ricky Swift, was named the Coach of the Year for leading the Falcons to a 15-0 MEL season.
Nina Pardo (Napa), Trella Chrisco (Napa), Kelsey Zeller (Vintage) and Jessica Loper (Vintage) received honorable mention.
Varsity Girls Basketball
• All-League honors for St. Helena
St. Helena’s Kelsea Jimenez and Meagan Densberger were named Second-Team All-North Central League I South, the league’s coaches said. Eliana Gallegos was chosen honorable mention.
Varsity Girls Soccer
• Napa 0, Terra Linda 0
Napa held Terra Linda-San Rafael to just one shot Friday in the Napa Valley Tournament, which is being played at the Raider Field. Macy Jo Harrison played well on offense and Natalie Guerrieri and Deborah Creiglow played well on defense for Napa, which takes on Vintage today at 1 p.m. at the Raider Field.
The Napa-Vintage junior varsity game follows at 2:30 p.m.
Benicia is also entered in the four-team tournament, which resumes this morning at 8:30 a.m.
Varsity Wrestling
• St. Helena wrestlers advance
Five St. Helena wrestlers — Gian Traverso, Kevin DePina, Tyler Nuss, Alex Seyve and Tony Montelli — advanced from Friday’s matches to today’s competition at the CIF North Coast Section Championships, which are being held at Newark Memorial.
Traverso (152) won by technical fall, pin and technical fall to move into the semifinals.
DePina (135) won his first two matches, 13-4 and by pin, and lost by decision in the quarterfinals, 9-1.
Nuss (142) won by technical fall, lost 3-2, and won by technical fall.
Seyve (147) won by fall, lost by technical fall, and won 12-4.
Montelli (heavyweight) lost 4-0, then won three straight matches (two by fall and another by forfeit).
Christian Benitez (121) and Gino Trinchero (215) both went 2-2 in the tournament, which has a double-elimination format and qualifies the top four finishers in each weight class for the CIF State Meet, to be held March 2-3 in Bakersfield.
• Croxdale the lone remaining Indian
Napa High’s Jake Croxdale (171 pounds) will compete in the quarterfinals of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament at University of Pacific today.
JV Girls Soccer
• Napa 7, San Marin 0
• Napa 6, Terra Linda 1
Kaylie Martin had three goals, Stephanie Fernandes had a goal and two assists, and Megan Kostecka and Sarah Treweek played well in the win over San Marin-Novato.
Martin had two goals, Anna Richardson had two goals, Samantha Upton had a goal and two assists, Kostecka and Treweek stood out defensively, and Alice Anamosa played well at midfield in the win over Terra Linda.
