A Vacaville woman who worked at Kaiser Clinic’s radiology department in Napa for more than 10 years was killed by an alleged drunk driver.

Pamela Jarvinen, 49, died Jan. 17 when the her minivan was hit by a Volkswagen Passat driven by a Glen Ellen interior designer, Peter Lloyd Gilliam, 50, who crossed the double-yellow center line on Highway 1 near Fort Ross, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Jarvinen was pronounced dead en route to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. It took fire crews more than 30 minutes to free her from the mangled minivan, the CHP said.

Gilliam, who suffered a broken leg, was to be arrested for felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter once he was released from the hospital, the CHP said.
Officers said due to his intoxication, Gilliam lost control of his vehicle before crashing into Jarvinen’s Ford Windstar minivan.

Jarvinen’s husband, Shawn Jarvinen, suffered minor cuts and bruises. He was also taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment and released.
The CHP said Gilliam had met friends in  for lunch and was headed home on Highway 1 to Glen Ellen when the accident happened.

" My sympathies go out to the Jarvinen family. We have a new neighbor who is a very bad driver and we found out via court records that he has 6 DUI convictions plus felony drugs. Yet he has a drivers license and continues to drive at high speed (60 in a 25 is normal for him). He has totaled 3 cars and a truck in the time he has lived here.We have complained repeatedly to the CHP and nothing has happened in a year. He will likely kill someone someday like the drunk driver did in this report. Why can't the courts do more to protect the public from habitual offenders who have no intention of changing their behavior? I am deeply sorry for the Jarvinen's loss and for our society that lets such things happen. "
