" Drivers have alway's been speeding on Jefferson. Its the number of car's on Jefferson that make it seem worse. I am from the cruise nights when first street was one way and A&W was the turn around point. "

" My mother was killed by a speeder on Jefferson 20 yrs ago and they still do...I have never seen police on that street ticket speeders but they do on other streets. "

" Duh. Now they have cell phones in their ears also. Where is "law enforcement"? Thirty days of enforcement would have a significant effect on the problem. "

" Jefferson is no different than any other major corridor in any town in the country. There is no question that people speed on Jefferson. It's always been a problem. To Richard, I can guarantee the police issue numerous citations to speeding driver's on Jefferson on a daily basis. More or higher police presence and traffic enforcement is a fine temporary solution. Unfortunately people have short memories and bad habits. The ultimate responsibility lies with the individual driver and their ability to use common sense and sound judgement, and that's not likely to happen otherwise they wouldn't be speeding in the first place. DIVE SAFE! "

" Tom, I very much agree. Dive safe, people! Careful when surfacing (don't get the bends), and double check your oxygen supply before diving. "

" I don't drive on Jefferson that much, but I got a ticket there, a few weeks ago,so I know there are cops there. "

" Too much traffic and traffic lights now! "

Kevin wrote on Feb 16, 2007 7:19 AM:

" No, speeding is not nearly the problem now that it was years ago. Probably like Darlene says: too much traffic and more traffic lights. Even in the middle of the night there is traffic! I don't think you could get a decent drag race down Jefferson anymore. Ahh the good old days: we had more carburators on our engines than these new cars have horses... "

" Jefferson street in the old days was like the Hi 29 freeway is today. It was the best way out of town going north as we did not have a better route. If you wanted to get out of town fast you headed north on Jefferson "

" FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS LIVED IN NAPA MY ENTIRE LIFE, WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE VOLUMNE OF VEHICLES COMPARED TO YEARS AGO, THERE ARE A LOT LESS PEOPLE SPEEDING. MORE VEHICLES, LESS SPEEDERS. JEFFERSON USED TO BE ONE OF THE CRUISE STREETS- UP DOWNTOWN FIRST ST TO JEFFERSON - A BIG LOOP. PEOPLE WOULD RACE NIGHTLY- AND THEY USED TO GET AWAY WITH IT! "

" 30 yrs.ago, cruise night on jefferson st.was speeding, showing off that nice car u had worked on all year to bring to cruise night and hang out in the grapeyard parking lot. now they cut the cruise off at 900pm and no more hanging out inthe parking lots.lunchtime for both high schools there are motorcycle officers from jefferson food mkt.past napa high, all the way to vintage high, stopping speeders. people are ignorant and impatient when it comes to our kids crossing in the crosswalks. they start driving thru the crosswalks as the kids are still crossing. drivers now days pay NO attention to most driving laws. they are still gonna speed, put on their makeup, fix their hair, and continually talk on their CELL PHONES. talk about speeding, how about the stretch on soscol ave. between lincoln and pueble. have u ever tried to cross there? hardly anyone stops and their are alot of KIDS that cross their for napa high and mcpherson. sometimes u see a motor officer there, but most of the time u dont. when is the city of napa going to put a 3-way stop there or a stoplight? is it going to take one of our kids getting seriously injured in the crosswalk before they do something. there are people that will never face up to following driving laws, quit speeding and running red lights. it is a problem in every city. "

" Again, There should be a larger police presence and, the violators should be published; at least weekly in this publication. "

Dianne wrote on Feb 17, 2007 9:44 AM:

" People don't drive as fast on Jefferson as in the old days due to all the traffic, lights and pedestrians...but how about Lincoln, Soscol and Browns Valley Road...I sometimes see the motorcyle cop at his location on Lincoln..the only time I see people get tickets or slow down is when he's around!! Let's face it...there are too many people hurrying to get somewhere because they are late due to traffic congestion!! "

napa parent wrote on Feb 17, 2007 6:36 PM:

" what about road rage moms, some dads, mostly moms in a hurry to get your kids to school before they are late or u r late for work. u no who u r tailgating, laying on the horn, giving people the finger ,cutting people off, no signaling, speeding and yelling out your windows on jefferson st. doing this to people who actually are doing 25 in a school zone shows your ignorance to traffic laws. "

to Dianne wrote on Feb 18, 2007 8:59 AM:

" If you know the traffic is going to be bad, then get up ten minutes earlier to be where you are going on time. Sounds like common sense to me. "

Penny wrote on Feb 18, 2007 10:07 PM:

" Jefferson is a bit tame now in comparison with Highway 29. The merging on ramps to the freeway are like a racing strip lately. There are still people that go faster than the speed limit allows especially in the afternoon on Jefferson. The loud music continues to blare from some cars with loud muffler systems as they speed around town. We have to drive defensively as always to prevent accidents. Tourist are confused causing many distractions and near accidents on any street in town. We have to remember that there is less damage to our vehicles and our bodies when we are following the rules of the roads. "
