Napa Police officers arrested a Napa man Saturday afternoon in connection with a bicycle theft that occurred on Feb. 5, at Bicycle Madness on Jefferson Street.

Todd Franklin Cody, 44, was taken into custody at his home on the 2300 block of Barry Street at 2:30 p.m., and arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property and methamphetamine. Police responded to Cody’s residence after they received a call about suspicious activity occurring at the residence, Napa Police Sgt. Paul Paniagua said.
When police arrived, Cody was painting the bicycle Paniagua said. Police checked the serial number on the bike and determined that it was the one taken from the bike shop. A further check of Cody revealed some meth, Paniagua said.

Officers took Cody to Napa County Department of Corrections.

" Oh my god not meth. You did not even need to put that in, because I already guessed that. What is wrong with people. "

" Hey NVR how about publishing all the people arrested for METH each month. DUI is a misdeameanor how about informing us of the FELONY arrests???? METH use in NAPA is out of control as well already know but it would be nice to know how many people on our own street are using.... "

" Most important question, is he legal? "

" I hope with a header of J/K, the J/K stands for "just kidding" because with a name of Todd Franklin Cody, yeah, you bet he's illegal, hello!! Why does every issue have to turn into a blame the illegal immigrant. Did you know that a lot of meth dealer's/users are American Citizen's??? "

" I like the previous Idea!!!!Publish all arrests. Great for understanding which crimes are being apprehended/where did the aprehension take place? Who are the people being arrested, and for what? Who cares who stole your property, a thief is a thief anywhere. "

" Please publish all those arrest that are made monthly if they are for meth. I think that seeing monthly felonies in Napa would be great. BUT did all of you know that meth in Napa is not a new problem. It was rampant when I was in high school in the late 80's. It has always been a problem here and will continue to be until we get all the dealers off the street. Fortunately quite a few of the dealers who were around when I was in HS have either died from there own drug use or are in Prison somewhere. "

" With the number of illegal aliens in our country, and the documented FACT that MOST of them slinked here from Mexico, doesn't mean that Todd Franklin Cody is NOT an illegal alien from Canada. YES, check ALL perps for citizenship, deport their fannies where applicable, and YES, report ALL these cases! "

" Yes j/k means just kidding. In other crime articles that involve someone with a hispanic name, the first question people ask is "Is he leagal?" I thought people may see how stupid it is when they ask that question by asking it when someone has a non-hispanic name. "

" I agree the meth problem in Napa is very serious - illegal immigrant or not. If something of yours has been stolen from out in front of your house or out of your car at night, odds are the theif was tweaking on meth. Not many users actually hold down a job so they are out there stealing your stuff in the middle of the night to feed their twenty/forty dollar a day habit. Anybody else out there notice the percentage of crimes and arrests in police logs involve this cheap drug? My question is, what exactly is more dangerous - someone with a .09 BAC behind the wheel or someone who hasn't slept in two days? I'd say it isa great idea to publish the names of these felons - same as DUI's. Because they are just as dangerous - if not more. "

" Why do you believe it is stupid to be concerned about illegal immigration? People are fed up because such a tremendous amount of crime is committed by individuals who have no right to be here in the first place. "

J/K wrote on Feb 12, 2007 5:58 PM:

" I never said I wasn't concered about illegal immigration. Asking if someone is legal because they have a hispanic name is racist, no matter how you look at it. I don't have statistics, but I'm sure the hispanics don't commit many more crimes per person "

" If you're concerned about illegal immigration, why don't you stop buying wine from the wineries that hires the immigrants for pennies on the dollar? How about not buying produce from the producers that are doing the same thing? The reason people like it here is that there's a job market here. Employers will provide jobs. Don't prosecute the folks coming for the work; prosecute the unscrupulous business owners who are trying to shave pennies and creating the market conditions for poorly paid manual labor. Look what kind of social conditions have come about as a result of that kind of market. This is an issue of nurture, not nature. "

to J/K wrote on Feb 12, 2007 7:23 PM:

" I guess per capita is what you meant, and as a matter of fact hispanics do commit more crimes per capita than other ethnicities (besides blacks). Moreover, illegals commit way much more than their fair share of crime, from petty theft to rape and murder. Since this area has such a high illegal immigrant population, it's a fairly safe bet that many of the hispanic criminals whose arrest you read about are here illegaly. It is not irrelevant for people to want to know the legal status of criminals. "

" Maybe a little off the subject, but with all the problems going on with the bars in Napa, why isn't there a story about the huge fight at lamplighter on Saturday Night during a rap concert. With all the problems at bars latley this story should have at least made the police and fire, if not front page news because of the size of the fight and the people who were involved. "

" To 'ok J/k' & 'to j/k'...nobody said it was an irrelevent concern. We just think that it's racist to ask that question FIRST and foremost. J/K-you are so right. It's one thing to be concerned and it's another to want to blame every little (or big) problem Napa ever thought about having -problems in the schools, on the streets, in our neighborhoods- on one segment of the population. If you think we don't have white dope fiends, drunk drivers, bad apples, you are nuts. I think there are MORE whites in Napa 'bending the rules' than other populations; we just don't get busted for it as much. "

Why is this so hard to understand? wrote on Feb 13, 2007 8:46 AM:

" Yes we have many citizens of this country who are criminals. As citizens they are entitled to be here. We need to deal with them, whether it be putting them in jail or drug rehab etc.. Illegal aliens have NO RIGHT TO BE HERE. We have a whole segment of crime occuring that wouldn't be happening if our government would protect our borders. Why is this so hard to comprehend? We have enough of our own criminals we don't need anyone elses. A large segment of those sneaking into our country are criminals, they know we aren't enforcing our immigrations laws and they can pretty much run amok without anything happening to them. "

to James wrote on Feb 13, 2007 11:34 AM:

" I agree, the register needs to report on this. "

J/K wrote on Feb 13, 2007 5:15 PM:

" The large segment coming in are criminals? Where do you get that information? Sure there are some bad apples, but the majority just come here to better their life. I'm not saying that coming here illegaly is right, but how many of us would do the same thing if we were in their position? As someone else said earlier, just as much blame should be placed on the companies that rely on the illegal immigrants as their workforce. It's obvious with some of the negative posts here that there is racial profiling. Some people are probably much more likely to call the police if they see a hispanic man that looks suspicious than they would be if that person were white. The majority of the hispanic population also doesn't make a lot of money. We all know that the crime rates are higher where there is less money. "

to J/K wrote on Feb 13, 2007 6:38 PM:

" So you think that only a few of the illegals are criminals? Actually they are all of them criminals, since there presence here is a violation of the law. I can sympathize with simply wanting to come and work for a better life, but do it legally. Many have had to wait for years to immigrate here legally, often in much worse circumstances than Mexico's. Oh, and 30% of our prison population is illegal, and those are just the ones that have been caught. Do you still think that the serious criminal element among them is so small? "
