A high-speed chase along Jefferson Street Friday evening ended when the

14-year-old driver of the vehicle crashed into a traffic pole, causing her major injuries. Police say that alcohol was a factor in the collision.

The chase began when the female driver, whose name was not released because of her age, failed to stop for a police officer who observed her run a red light at Jefferson and Lincoln streets, Napa Police Sgt. John Kostelac said.

When officers attempted to pull her over, Kostelac said, the girl led them north along Jefferson Street, in a chase reaching speeds of 90 miles per hour. The girl lost control of her vehicle and collided with a traffic light pole on the intersection of Trancas and Jefferson streets, ripping the Kia sedan she was driving into two pieces.

One half of the vehicle caught on fire and remained near the traffic pole.

The other half of the car skidded 50 feet north and came to rest on its roof onto the World Savings Bank Property. The girl and her passenger, Jose Camarillo, 19, of Napa, trapped inside it.

Emergency crews freed both the girl and Camarillo and an ambulance took them to Queen of the Valley Hospital. The teenager sustained major internal injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol, and was airlifted to Children¹s Hospital in Oakland for further treatment. Camarillo sustained minor injuries.

Kostelac said that the girl will be arrested on suspicion of DUI, evading a police officer, driving without a license and having no insurance. Both the girl and Camarillo wore their seat belts.

" What a blank lil girl. O ok where were here parents? Why was the 19 year old with her. She could've very easily killed an innocent bystander. "
