SACRAMENTO — The family of a 23-year-old man who was shot after a party in the North Natomas neighborhood say he was killed because one of his friends was speaking Spanish.

Police believe the killing was gang-related and have arrested two 20-year-old men, although they would not discuss the motive. The victim, Alejandro Villalobos, was not in a gang, according to police.
Villalobos, the father of a young boy, was gunned down early Saturday as he left the party with two of his brothers and a friend, according to police. He died while his brothers were driving him to the hospital.

The suspects, Gilbert Villalobos — no relation to the victim — and Anthony Pruitt, did not enter pleas Tuesday in Sacramento County Superior Court. They are being held without bail.
