An American Canyon mother was taken into custody after school officials notified Child Protective Services about bruises they discovered on her 7-year-old son.
Officers arrested Karen Elizabeth Ferrie, 48, on Tuesday at her Flosden Road home.
On Monday, school administrators called CPS, which notified the American Canyon Police Department, Sgt. Craig Nickles said.
Officials found significant bruising on the child’s back and arms, Nickles said. “He was placed in temporary foster care by CPS.”
When Ferrie was arrested, there were no other children in the residence, he said.
Ferrie was arrested on felony child abuse.
Man thumped with ax handle
Police responded to a home in the 2300 block of Lone Oak Drive on Tuesday afternoon after a man approached the home and told the owners he had been assaulted.
Within a short time, police arrested Bradley Scott Smith, 18, for the alleged attack.
The male subject told police he was in his tent in the creekbed near Lone Oak Avenue, when someone began throwing items at his tent, Napa Police Sgt. Don Honey said.
The man confronted Smith and another teen, who left the scene and went to their car, Honey said.
Smith and teen returned armed with a BB gun and an ax handle, Honey said. “The victim said Smith hit him with the ax handle.”
Smith was arrested on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy.
Golf clubs stolen
Sheriff’s deputies are looking into a rash of thefts of expensive golf clubs from the residential gated community of the Silverado Resort.
The burglaries happened last week on Acorn Way, Oak Leaf Way and Augusta Circle, sheriff’s Capt. John Robertson said.
The clubs and bags, valued at $2,600, $2,500 and $4,400, were taken from golf carts parked in the garages.
So far, detectives have no suspects.
Hiker rescued
The Napa County Search and Rescue team, along with sheriff’s deputies, rescued a stranded hiker from the Oak Hill Trail in Calistoga.
The 43-year-old Napa woman was hiking with a friend when she became dehydrated and tired around 6 p.m. Sunday, Capt. John Robertson said.
The woman was unable to continue. Her friend hiked out to a place where he could use his cell phone and called for help.
Search and rescue arrived. It took them until 11 p.m., to bring her out, Robertson said.
“She was dehydrated and cold, but she was not hospitalized.”
