Messina
Charles and Suzanne Messina celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 23.
They met in San Francisco's North Beach in 1956 and wed in a small ceremony shortly thereafter. The Messinas moved to Concord from San Francisco in 1965, where Charles had joined the Contra Costa Sheriff's Department. In 1972, the family, including son Frank and daughter Grace, relocated to Napa. Suzanne also worked in Contra Costa County running her styling business in several area rest homes. Now retired, the couple enjoys life in their Browns Valley home.
They were quite surprised to see a stretch limousine pull up to their driveway the night of their 50th anniversary. Their son, Frank, along with his children, Alex and Amy, had driven from Bend, Ore., to join in the surprise celebration. Also in attendance were Grace; husband Jeff and two daughters, Samantha and Emily. The celebration party dined at Fior d'Italia Restaurant in North Beach, where the Messina couple dated 50 years earlier. They were greeted by the owner, who presented them with a bottle of wine and a signed book detailing the history of the restaurant. After an exquisite meal, the limo picked up the Messina family party and headed back to Napa. The family presented the couple with a scrapbook, which included notes and pictures from extended family and old friends sending good wishes on their special day. Granddaughter Amy played a special selection on her viola and Charles wrapped up the evening with his beautiful rendition of "Back to Sorrento" and "Old Man River." It couldn't have been a more perfect evening. Congratulations and many more to come!
