Wine notes: Hospitality at NVC

Napa Valley College is launching a Hospitality Tourism Management Program with an introductory class that begins Jan. 17. Registration is now in progress.

Introduction to Hospitality Management (Business 298) is offered on Tuesday evenings, 6-8:50 p.m., at the Napa Valley College campus in Napa. The three-unit transferable course focuses on an overview of operations and management of hotels and lodging, food and beverage, spa management, wine-tasting rooms and tourism and recreation industries. Ian McNeil, who has 20 years of wine-hospitality business experience,  teaches the class, which includes hospitality industry professionals from lodging, restaurants and spas as guest speakers.

Fees for credit classes have been reduced to $20 per unit. Financial aid information is available by calling 253-3020. See www.napavalley.edu for more information. Students can apply and register online. Walk in registration is in progress with late registration Jan. 17-23. A Saturday registration will be held Jan. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the Napa campus.
Artisan wine festival

Artisan wine and food producers come together with top Bay Area artists for a festive day of wine and food-tasting, artist’s demos and more at Copia’s Artisan Wine, Food and Art Festival Jan. 20 from noon to 4 p.m. Visitors can peruse artists’ booths with hundreds of original artworks as they taste exceptional wines from boutique wineries (5,000 or fewer cases a year) complemented by select breads, cheeses and charcuterie.
Festival admission includes wineglass, winetasting and food samples. Artwork will be available for purchase. Additional food available for purchase at the Artisan Grill.

Admission to Copia on this day will be by Festival Pass only. Copia will open at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $45 general and $35 for Copia members. Info, 259-1600 or www.copia.org.

Copia is also introducing a new wine-blending workshop, held Friday through Sunday from 2:45 to 4 p.m. For a $50 fee, you can work with Copia’s wine staff to create a custom blend of wine, bottle and cork it and take it home.
