Holiday classes at Whiting nursery
Whiting Nursery has organized several holiday-themed classes during December beginning with “Care & Feeding of Christmas Trees” today at 2 p.m. Learn how to care for your fresh-cut or living Christmas tree from Christmas tree guru (and Whiting’s owner) Kevin Twohey. A few key tips will help you enjoy your tree throughout the holiday season. This class is free, and there is no need to register.
Registration is necessary for the following classes. Call 963-5358.
• Wreathmaking: The key to successful wreath making is not just creative thinking, it’s using your materials effectively to create a lasting design. Spend 90 minutes with wreath designer Donna McCarthy and learn the techniques that can be applied to wreaths for year-round designs. Whitings supplies a wreath frame and the supplies to create your own masterpiece, along with glue guns, accessories, a work area, coffee and cookies. The class takes place Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. Cost, $25.
• Gingerbread houses: Learn how to make a gingerbread house Dec. 19, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Teacher Connie Chavez is a gingerbread decorating specialist. Bring your child and the two of you can build a holiday gingerbread house. Whitings provides the house and trimmings. Cost $25. Registration is required.
• Holiday Scrapbooks: Create your own holiday scrapbook to store your memories of the 2006 holiday season Dec. 21, 10 a.m. to noon. Janice Humphrey shares her expertise on what makes a scrapbook special. Bring your own “scraps” to create your pages or book. The cost is $15. Registration is required.
