Common courtesy increasingly uncommon

Dear editor,

Where is common courtesy in Napa? As I sit here, I'm listening to jackhammering from my neighbor's landscaping crew that started at 8 a.m. My husband politely asked if they could wait until a bit later the next day, was given an apology by the neighbor and yet the jackhammering started even earlier today. Another neighbor's dog leaves gifts on my front lawn every morning and I cannot count how many times I've been flipped off by people who've cut me off in traffic when I honk my horn at them. It seems to be getting worse all the time.

" The more the population increases the worse things will get, welcome to city life! Some of our neighborhoods have been taken over by gangs. We hear loud music being played (not in English) at all hours of the night, wake up to bear cans, graffiti, yelling (again not in English) and lately some tires slashed and windows broken. Count your blessings that you have such trivial complaints! "

" The tire slashing and smashed windows have hit the trivial areas thank you. As of 10 days ago. No longer trivial I think. "

Code Enforcement is a Joke wrote on Dec 10, 2006 9:40 AM:

" Diana, I look out of my new house at a neighbor who has parked 4 huge trailers for work, another has 3 cars that have been abadoned for 6 months. My neighbor around the corner has 5 buses that shuttle around wine drinkers 7 days a week, and returns to park them all over the nighborhood! (does Napa even have code enforcement?)I see trash cans all week, and hear dogs yapping all day long. I see people walking their dogs in Tulocay and letting them crap on gravestones, and then hurry and walk away. And my nextdoor neighbor starts his construction at 5:45. And with all this I still love living here. It can be so much worse. "

" Apparently you didn't read my comment very well. I said Diana's complaints are trivial compared to what some of us face in other neighborhoods. Try and pay attention, please! "

" Ahh...city living. I moved out of Napa and California altogether 6 years ago. Aside from my friends, I don't miss it all. I wake up to the sound of noisy birds cherping and go to bed hearing a wolf howl or owl hoot. Please, just put up with your neighbors and don't move out to my neighborhood! "

" I think that honking at people that cut you off and almost cause an accident is perfectly acceptable "
