Incorporating humor, intricate playing and a touch of history, the Dallas Brass will perform some of America’s greatest hits from the past 229 years at the Napa Valley Opera House on Friday at 8 p.m.

The musicians will perform the sounds of Henry Mancini, Benny Goodman, Leonard Bernstein, John Philip Sousa and Aaron Copland in “American Musical Journey.” They will be joined on stage by Sonoma Valley High School students.
In addition to their solo engagements, Dallas Brass has appeared with symphony orchestras nationwide, performed at Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and  toured overseas. It has shared the stage with the late Bob Hope and performed for presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush.

Tickets are $30 and $35, $15 for students.
San Francisco Ballet’s trainee program

Up and coming dancers from the San Francisco Ballet School’s trainee program perform Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Opera House. Seven dancers, aged 16 to 19, will perform jewels from Act III of “Sleeping Beauty,” “Mobile,” excerpts from “Handel — A Celebration” and “Amplitude Goldberg,” which was created especially for the trainee program. The dancers will be available after the performance for questions and answers with the audience. Tickets are $25 and $20.
The San Francisco Ballet School’s trainee program is an ensemble of dancers chosen from the school’s most advanced level. The pre-professional program provides experience that eases the dancers’ transition from studio classroom to professional stage. The trainees rehearse and perform classical and contemporary works from the repertory of San Francisco Ballet. Trainees also perform in local outreach programs, special events and in full company performances during the SF Ballet repertory season and in the company’s annual production of “The Nutcracker.”

Tickets for the Napa Valley Opera House performances are available at the box office, and may be purchased by phone at 226-73722 or online at www.nvoh.org.
